Clinical Nurse Manager 2 – Cystic Fibrosis In-patient Unit at Beaumont Hospital. Be responsible for leading a dynamic group of staff in the new 20 single-room in-patient ward and for the twenty-four hour accountability of the unit and day-to-day ward operations.

Salary: Appointment will be made on Clinical Nurse Manager 2 grade (€61,463 - €77,666) at a point in line with Government pay policy
Hours of work: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week

Responsibilities
* Direct, co-ordinate and provide a high quality, evidence based nursing service in a multidisciplinary environment.
* Roster and supervise staff; teach and train nursing and support staff and ensure economical management of resources.
* Enable training and development of nursing staff in safe and effective practice through team leadership and practical expertise.
* Develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care; set standards of care; review and update nursing policies and procedures based on current research.
* Maintain effective communication within the nursing team and with the multidisciplinary team to ensure a cohesive service within the ward.
* Audit department work and evaluate outcomes of care.
Clinical Responsibilities
* Establish and maintain a high quality evidence based nursing service.
* Assess patient needs using approved nursing models, reflecting specialist needs and promoting patient participation.
* Direct, supervise and support nursing staff in care management; provide professional guidance and participate in care delivery.
* Ensure clinical competency of staff; introduce new clinical practices appropriately.
* Plan patient care based on needs assessment and ensure delivery of prescribed treatment in line with standards.
* Review care plans; promote patient/family participation and provide information to promote independence and health.
* Maintain liaison with patient/family and social workers; ensure timely communication with external agencies when transferring patients.
* Apply research findings to define patient population and participate in research when appropriate.
Standards and Quality of Care
* Lead quality initiatives within the Unit to improve patient care and develop nursing practice.
* Identify areas for practice review and lead evidence-based practice development.
* Establish ward management and clinical standards within targets set by management.
* Monitor and evaluate outcomes of nursing care and the quality of work by nursing staff.
* Participate in data collection and clinical statistics related to nursing care.
Education – Staff Development
* Create an environment conducive to evidence-based teaching and practice.
* Mentor and lead staff; promote autonomous and expert practice.
* Identify and address training needs; facilitate study days and learning opportunities.
* Support induction, continuing education and postgraduate programmes as appropriate.
* Ensure availability of educational resources for patients and families.
* Engage with research opportunities within the Ward.
Personnel Management
* Maintain high staff morale; promote team spirit and professional conduct in line with An Bord Altranais.
* Ensure staff welfare and safety; handle complaints and disciplinary matters per policy.
* Conduct performance reviews and development plans for nursing staff.
Ward Auxiliary Staff
* Supervise and develop Porters/HCA roles and training; ensure understanding of roles among nursing staff.
Administrative & Other
* Ensure accurate unit records and reports; promote clinical and administrative computerisation.
* Assist in annual departmental reporting and budget management.
Qualifications
Mandatory:
* Statutory Registration and professional qualifications; be registered or eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
* At least 5 years post-registration experience, with 2 years in the specialty or a related area.
* Clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to discharge the role's functions; evidence of continuous professional development.
* Annual registration must be maintained with NMBI; PSAC pending as required.
Desirable:
* Management course; postgraduate qualification in respiratory nursing.
