Overview
Unijobs on behalf of our public sector client have a requirement for a Communications Manager to join their team. The duration of the post is initially to February 2026 with the potential for extensions thereafter. The role is 35 hours per week, based fully onsite in Dublin 8, with an hourly rate of €32.86 (annualised salary of €60,013) and 30 days of annual leave per year.
The successful candidate will be employed as an agency employee.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Assist in the development, implementation and updating of the hospital’s communications strategy to support the hospital’s strategic ambition.
* Improve the means and methods by which the hospital communicates with staff, internal and external stakeholders, including PR and digital communications.
* With the Head of Communications, provide leadership and guidance on corporate issues and messaging, agree communications plans and approaches, and contribute to briefing material for senior management.
* Manage the day-to-day running of the Communications Department to maximise outreach and dissemination of information about programmes of activity and their impact.
* Support the Head of Communications in organising, planning, and running events, including staff engagement events as required.
* Support and implement change communications in line with hospital strategy and project needs.
* Assist with the compilation and production of annual reports, operational plans and other corporate reports.
* Draft responses to media enquiries for Head of Communications to approve.
* Deputise for Head of Communications when necessary and support out-of-hours work when required.
Internal Communications
* With Head of Communications oversight, issue staff communications.
* Ensure projects and campaigns are delivered timely and effectively.
* Coordinate development of patient and staff information leaflets and booklets.
* Ensure publications and documents are fit for purpose and offer value for money.
* Project manage internal design, including briefs, campaigns, presentations, and sign-off.
* Review and copy edit internal or external materials.
* Assist with development, revision and publication of hospital policies, procedures and guidelines.
Digital Communications
* Project manage with the Head of Communications to develop the digital strategy.
* Manage the hospital’s social channels.
* Lead and liaise with internal and external stakeholders for digital content, input and design.
* Provide social media training to employees via monthly or quarterly workshops.
* Keep up to date with best practice in digital and healthcare communications, including changes to legislation and codes of practice.
Resource Management
* Report on Communications performance to the Head of Communications against planned work.
* Manage all staff reporting to the position, supporting and motivating their development.
* Develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.
* Actively manage absenteeism, timekeeping and performance achievement.
Academic/Professional Qualifications and/or Relevant Experience
* At least three years’ experience in an administrative capacity within the Public Sector / Hospital / Healthcare or similar environment.
* A Degree (QQI Level 8) in a relevant field (e.g., Communications, Journalism or similar).
* 3–5 years’ experience in a Communications/Public Affairs or related field. Strong writing, editing, communication and presentation skills.
* Management experience with ability to mentor and develop others.
* High attention to detail and ability to follow through on tasks.
* Ability to manage external agencies to ensure delivery aligns with user needs.
* Desirable: QQI Level 9 degree in a relevant field; experience in Digital Communications (social media, email marketing).
This position may be subject to Garda Vetting and Foreign Police Clearance; if applicable you will be required to obtain these prior to commencing in this role.
