Hays has been retained to recruit a Pipeline Protection Engineer for our client, who is a Semi-State Utilities Company with bases throughout Ireland.
Your new role
Reporting to the Senior Pipeline Safety Engineer, the Pipeline Protection Engineer will:
1. Develop and manage interfaces with key stakeholders such as Local Authorities, National Roads Authority, Railway Procurement Agency, Fire Services, and Electrical Infrastructure operators.
2. Liaise with third parties regarding development near Transmission Pipelines or Distribution Strategic Mains, including:
3. Local Authorities
4. Architects, Engineers, and Planning Consultants
5. Property Developers
6. Electrical Infrastructure developers and operators
7. Landowners and Farmers
8. Contractors and Utilities
9. Approve and issue maps, drawings, and relevant codes of practice using technologies such as GIS and DBYD online.
10. Maintain a database documenting all third-party activity near pipelines.
11. Prepare and issue monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal use and regulatory reporting.
12. Assess development proposals and participate in forums to evaluate their impact on pipeline safety.
13. Initiate pipe protection measures and supervise construction where necessary.
14. Advise third parties on appropriate procedures during development.
15. Participate in safety campaigns and stakeholder information sessions.
16. Develop and maintain policies and procedures for third-party liaison and development near pipelines.
17. Coordinate with Agricultural Liaison Officers and the Distribution DBYD team to ensure consistency.
18. Work with inspectors and operations teams to track and resolve queries.
19. Provide updates and escalate risks or issues to the Senior Pipeline Safety Engineer.
20. Lead improvement initiatives for tracking and managing third-party development enquiries.
What you'll need to succeed
21. Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
22. 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience, ideally with knowledge of Transmission and/or Distribution natural gas processes and construction techniques.
23. Understanding of safety management and risk assessment principles.
24. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and gain commitment.
25. Excellent communication skills across all mediums.
26. Ability to establish and maintain effective information-gathering procedures.
27. Proactive approach to learning and applying new knowledge.
28. High personal performance standards and results-driven mindset.
29. Good understanding of business operations and the commercial impact of technical decisions.
30. Proven ability to manage complex issues and communicate them effectively.
What you'll get in return
31. Salary €50k to €60k + package
