Overview
The Mining Hydrologist will be responsible for conducting and managing hydrological and hydrogeological investigations related to mining operations. This role includes evaluating water resources, modeling surface and groundwater systems, and developing water management strategies that comply with environmental and regulatory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and implement hydrological and hydrogeological studies for mining sites in Ireland and abroad.
* Conduct field investigations including water sampling, well installations, and aquifer testing.
* Perform groundwater and surface water modeling using tools such as MODFLOW, HEC-HMS, or similar.
* Assess mine dewatering requirements and develop sustainable water management plans.
* Prepare technical reports, impact assessments, and regulatory submissions.
* Liaise with regulatory bodies, consultants, and internal project teams.
* Support environmental permitting processes and risk assessments.
* Provide input into Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Water Management Plans (WMPs).
* Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company sustainability policies.
* Mentor junior staff and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, or Civil Engineering (required).
* Master’s degree in Hydrogeology, Water Resources, or a related discipline (preferred).
* 3+ years of relevant experience in mining or water resource projects, ideally within a consulting or operational setting.
* Proficiency in hydrological and hydrogeological modelling software.
* Strong fieldwork capabilities and understanding of site investigation techniques.
* Excellent report writing and data analysis skills.
* Familiarity with Irish and EU environmental regulations is advantageous.
