This role sits within Medication Management Solutions (MMS) and focuses on Human Factors and User Experience Design (HF+UXD).
About MMS and the Role
Medication Management Solutions (MMS) is seeking a Human Factors Engineer to focus on HF+UXD.
The ideal candidate is passionate about user experience design with capabilities in visual design, information architecture, and interaction design for both standalone software and integrated software/hardware solutions.
The role involves working with customers and conducting user research to drive human factors engineering processes.
The HF+UXD team works on multiple product platforms including Dispensing Technologies (e.g., BD Pyxis, BD Rowa) and Infusion Systems (e.g., BD Alaris, CME Ambulatory Systems).
The HF+UXD Engineer will contribute to MMS product development across the business groups, engaging in programs from initiation through design and development, and applying evidence-based user-centered design principles to reduce risk and improve market adoption.

Main Responsibilities
Apply creative problem-solving to launch tactical, innovative, and disruptive ideas.
Balance customer needs, business constraints, and technical capabilities to create the best possible product or service.
Understand business goals and link them to design directions and product architecture; advocate for short-term solutions that support long-term visions.
Lead brainstorming sessions, report outs to stakeholders, and conduct innovation research.
Conduct Task Analyses, Usability Audits, and Cognitive Walkthroughs; analyze results and provide recommendations to product teams and stakeholders.
Collaborate with interface designers, engineers, marketing, and business leaders to define designs that meet customer needs and promote user insights across the lifecycle.
Advocate for user needs and drive usability standards and best practices.
Lead planning and execution of formative and summative usability studies; evaluate current and future products.
Analyze data and present findings to multidisciplinary teams.
Author HFE documentation for Usability Engineering Files for regulatory submissions (FDA HFE Guideline, IEC *****, ANSI/AAMI HE75).
Establish relationships with third-party vendors for usability study recruitment and coordination.
Manage human factors activities across projects and provide schedules/status to management.
Participate in cross-functional core team meetings to ensure usability requirements are met.
Develop and promote a culture focused on user and patient experience.
Teach human factors processes to cross-functional teams, leaders, and junior engineers.
Present and advise on human factors topics within the organization.
Take responsibility for directing and coordinating human factors activities for major product development programs or multiple projects.
Lead efforts to develop processes aligned with FDA/international human factors standards.
Provide technical supervision to less experienced human factors engineers and may manage a small workgroup.
About You
10+ years of experience in product development applying Human Factors Engineering to regulated product/system design.
Bachelor's degree in relevant field; Master's degree preferred.
Working knowledge of medical device standards and usability guidance (IEC *******, FDA Guidance for Human Factors, IEC *******, HE75, ISO *****, FDA Design Controls, ISO *****).
Experience in planning and executing usability studies (research plans, recruitment, moderation, analysis, reports).
Experience in HFE principles and methodologies (ergonomics, HCI, data collection/analysis).
Experience applying HFE techniques across product lifecycle (user research, prototyping, formative & summative evaluation).
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (~10%).
Preferred
Master's or PhD in relevant technical field.
Self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong creative, analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Facilitation and analytic skills with an open mind.
Proficient in engineering first principles; understanding of end-to-end product development.
Proficiency in at least one area to support innovation and development: sketching/graphic design; 3D modeling/drafting/prototyping (SolidWorks); wireframing/digital prototyping (Adobe XD/Axure); mechanical/electrical/software development.
Experience in creating new concepts and Intellectual Property (IP).
Compensation and Location
Salary range information: €92,****** - €156,****** EUR annually.
Primary work location: IRL Limerick - Castletroy.
