Successful applicants will:
* Have at least 3 years' experience working in a comparable Environment as a maintenance technician/general operative in Hotels, Nursing Homes, Hospitals, Schools etc.
* Competent in all aspects of Building works/services
* Full clean driving licence
* Basic computer literacy skills
* Must be able to work on own initiative
* A trade background would be desirable but not essential

The role
Facilities General Operative
1.0WTE Full Time, Permanent Contract
The main purpose of the Facilities General Operative to assist in ensuring the structural safety and appropriateness of the building for the provision of service user care and support activities.
The Facilities General Operative will report to the Facilities Manager.
The standard working week applying to the post is 39 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 8am – 4.30pm and 8am – 3.30pm Friday.

Location
St Patrick's Hospital, James's Street, Dublin 8, incorporating St Patricks Hospital Lucan and all SPMHS Dean Clinics.
Responsibilities
* Work under the direction of the Facilities Foreman
* Undertake tasks generated by the Daily Work Order dockets and sign off when complete
* To abide by Health & Safety standards in the course duty
* Operate MEWPs to carryout repairs, surveys and maintenance to roofs, gutters, and other structures after completion of appropriate training
* Operate a Forklift after Completion of appropriate training
* Provide cover to all Satellite Units (see "Place of Work" above) as requested
* Placement/Assembly/Maintenance of new and existing furniture around the Hospital campus
* Assist Trades person/s on specific tasks
* Accompany Contractors on site as requested
* Cleaning of light fittings and replacing light bulbs
* Scheduled cleaning of Kitchen equipment such as canopies, ducts and floor gullies when requested
* Delivery of heavy parcels/deliveries to point of request
* To react and assist in Fire Alarm activation and any other unforeseen emergencies
* To carry out daily waste management duties
* Power washing areas of the Hospital as requested
* Assisting with unblocking drains (storm and foul) as reactive and preventative measures
* Must be available to work outside of normal hours, as and when required to ensure the operational requirements of the organisation are maintained, at times this can be at short notice
* Be available to assist and manage the clearing of internal pathways of snow, ice and adverse weather conditions when required to ensure safe site for staff, service users and visitors
* Carry out monthly meter readings
* Assist with stock taking of supplies and consumables to ensure adequate supplies are maintained
* Partake in the departments Legionella prevention Programme and undertake the relevant training and ensure PPMs are completed on schedule
* Ensure timekeeping standards are at a high level
* Be available for On-Call as required (if applicable)
* To carry a hospital pager or other means of communication assigned by the Hospital to communicate with Hospital staff while on duty
* Willingness to participate with future technology developments relevant to the department
* Willing to partake in further training to develop skillset relevant to the department
* Must be willing to develop skillset to assist and carry out critical testing on all sites

Terms and Conditions
Tenure: 1.0wte Full time, Permanent contract, pensionable as below.
Working Week: Thestandard hours applying to this position is 39 hours per week.
Salary: The salary for the position is based on the SPMHS 2025 Facilities General Operative scale (€36,602 - €37,622) and dependent on experience, plus allowances.
On Call allowance (if applicable)
Annual Leave The annual leave associated with this position is 23 days.
Pension: All pensionable staff become members of the pension scheme upon commencement of employment. The scheme is a defined contribution scheme with a deduction from the salary of the employee of 4%. In respect of an internal appointment being made the individuals existing pension arrangements will continue.
Probation: The appointee will be appointed in a probationary capacity for the first six months during which time the job holder's performance will be subject to ongoing review.
Any extension to or suspension of the period of probation will be in line with the European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions
Health: The appointee must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the position and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character: The appointee must be of good character.
Retirement Age: Normal retirement age for employees is 66 years which at present is also normal pension age.
