Role Overview

The Contracts Director is responsible for leading the contractual and commercial management of multiple projects, ensuring all contracts are negotiated, executed, and administered in line with company objectives and client requirements. This role oversees the end-to-end contractual lifecycle from tender support and contract negotiation to project execution, variation management, and final account while maintaining compliance with relevant laws, standards, and internal governance. The Contracts Director will provide strategic leadership to commercial and site teams, act as the senior point of contact for clients on contractual matters and ensure the successful delivery of projects in terms of programme, cost, quality and risk, including regular travel to project locations across Europe.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead the Contracts function for major projects across in Europe.
* Develop and implement robust commercial strategies that align with project objectives and company financial targets.
* Provide oversight on bid submissions, ensuring contract terms are commercially viable, compliant, and low risk.
* Lead negotiations for contracts and major variations, ensuring clear allocation of risk and responsibilities.
* Oversee contract reviews, amendments, and execution, liaising with country specific legal representation to ensure compliance with governing laws and frameworks.
* Establish strong contract management procedures across all projects, from award to final account.
* Ensure that all projects under your remit are delivered safely on schedule, within budget, and to the required technical standards.
* Monitor and report on key project metrics across the contract portfolio.
* Drive the commercial performance of live projects, resolving disputes and variations in a timely and commercially favourable manner.
* Act as the primary point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and key stakeholders on all contractual and commercial matters.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to support repeat business, early engagement opportunities, and long-term partnerships.
* Attend and chair high-level progress and commercial meetings across multiple European sites.
* Lead and mentor Contracts Managers, Project Managers, and project delivery teams, fostering a high-performance and compliant culture.
* Support the professional development and succession planning of the wider commercial and contracts function.
* Champion best practice in contract administration, cost control, and commercial reporting across the business.
* Drive continuous improvement of internal systems, workflows, and reporting structures.
* Provide on-the-ground leadership across multiple data centre projects throughout Europe; regular travel required.
* Ensure consistent standards of contractual execution across all regions, adapting to jurisdictional and client-specific requirements.

Essential Requirements

* Proven track record of leading complex contract negotiations across multiple jurisdictions
* Strong knowledge of European contract law, procurement frameworks, and compliance standards
* Advanced understanding of risk allocation, dispute resolution, and claims management
* Skilled in cost control, forecasting, and commercial reporting
* Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor diverse teams across multiple countries
* Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted client relationships
* Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of influencing at senior levels
* Collaborative mindset with the ability to foster a high-performance, compliant culture
* Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen and problem-solving ability
* Highly organised, detail-oriented, and resilient under pressure
* Willingness to travel across Europe to provide on-the-ground leadership
