We are seeking a Technical Architect to join our team and help shape the technical direction of our platform. In this role, you will design and evolve cloud-native architectures on AWS, working closely with our Product & Platform Engineering teams to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions. You will bridge the gap between business requirements and technical implementation, ensuring our systems can support continued growth and innovation.
What we are looking for
* 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in an architectureor technical leadership role with a SaaS platform
* Deep expertise in AWS services including EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, CloudFront, API Gateway and VPC networking
* Strong experience designing and implementing microservices architectures and event-driven systems
* Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
* Experience with containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes
* Solid understanding of databases including SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis)
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
* Strong understanding of security best practices, authentication patterns and data protection
* Experience with distributed systems concepts including messaging queues, caching and load balancing
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
Nice to have
* AWS Solutions Architect certification (Associate or Professional)
* Knowledge of backend programming languages used at Scorebuddy (Golang, Python, PHP)
* Experience with AI/ML integration patterns and services such as Bedrock or SageMaker
* Experience with cost management and FinOps practices
Education & qualifications
* BSc/MSc in Computer Science / related technical discipline OR equivalent experience
What you'll do
* Architecture Design - Design and document scalable, resilient and cost-effective cloud native architectures on AWS, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry best practices
* Technical Leadership - Provide architectural guidance and mentorship to development teams, conducting design reviews and establishing technical standards across the organisation
* Cloud Strategy - Define and evolve our cloud strategy, including service selection, migration approaches and infrastructure patterns that support our SaaS platform via Infra, Policy, and Pipeline as Code)
* Stakeholder Collaboration - Partner with Product Management, Engineering and Operations to translate business requirements into technical solutions and roadmaps
* System Integration - Design integration patterns and APIs that enable seamless communication between microservices, third-party systems and customer environments
* Security & Compliance - Ensure architectural decisions incorporate security by design principles and support compliance requirements such as ISO-27001 and SOC2
* Performance & Scalability - Analyse system performance, identify bottlenecks and design solutions that meet scalability and reliability requirements.
* Documentation - Create and maintain architectural documentation including decision records, system diagrams and technical specifications
* Innovation - Evaluate emerging technologies and services, conducting proof of concepts to assess their applicability to our platform
* Cost Optimisation - Monitor and optimise cloud infrastructure costs, implementing FinOps practices and right-sizing recommendations
