About the Opportunity
A leading HV/MV commissioning specialist organisation based in Dublin is seeking an experienced HV Commissioning Engineer to join their growing team.
You will work on high-voltage and medium-voltage commissioning projects across Data Centres, Industrial, Utilities, and Power Infrastructure, delivering mission-critical electrical systems from pre-commissioning through to energisation and handover.
The Role – HV Commissioning Engineer (Dublin / Europe)
As an HV Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for the testing, commissioning, energisation, and validation of HV/MV electrical systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, client specifications, and electrical safety regulations.
This role offers exposure to hyper-scale data centre projects, substations, and critical power infrastructure across Ireland.
Key Responsibilities of the HV Commissioning Engineer
Execute HV/MV commissioning, pre-commissioning, and energisation of electrical systems including switchgear (AIS/GIS), transformers, substations, protection relays, and cable systems.
Perform FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), SAT (Site Acceptance Testing), and functional testing, ensuring full system compliance and performance validation.
Conduct electrical testing and commissioning activities, including:
Insulation Resistance Testing (IR)
Protection Relay Testing using Omicron CMC test sets
Cable Testing (VLF, Hi-Pot)
fault simulation and system verification
Develop and implement commissioning procedures, test scripts, ITPs, RAMS, and method statements in line with project and regulatory requirements.
Implement and enforce LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out), Permit-to-Work systems, and HV safety procedures, ensuring safe energisation and switching operations.
Support and lead HV energisation activities, including switching operations and coordination with grid operators, DNOs, and stakeholders.
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve electrical faults, defects, and non-conformances, ensuring timely close-out prior to handover.
Record, analyse, and report commissioning results, test documentation, and QA/QC records, supporting Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and final system validation.
Liaise with clients, consultants, OEMs, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery and commissioning completion.
Necessary Requirements of the HV Commissioning Engineer
Degree, diploma, or trade qualification in Electrical Engineering / Power Engineering / Building Services Engineering.
3–10+ years’ experience in HV/MV commissioning, electrical testing, or commissioning engineering roles within: Data Centres, Substations / Utilities, Industrial / Power Projects
Strong technical knowledge of: HV/MV switchgear (AIS/GIS), Transformers and substations, Protection relays and control systems, Critical power infrastructure (UPS, generators, distribution systems)
Proven hands-on experience with: Omicron CMC testing equipment (relay testing & secondary injection), FAT / SAT / commissioning processes, LOTO procedures and HV safety systems.
Knowledge of electrical standards and commissioning procedures (IEC, BS, EN standards preferred).
Experience working on live HV systems, energisation, and switching operations in high-risk environments.
Strong communication and coordination skills with ability to work with clients, OEMs, consultants, and project teams.
Flexibility to travel for projects across Ireland and Europe.
