Portlaoise Prison is a closed high-security prison for adult males. It houses those sent to custody from the Special Criminal Court, including prisoners linked with subversive crime.
This position offers flexible start dates and immediate interview opportunities. We are seeking experienced Clinical or Counselling Psychologists to join our team in providing evidence-based psychological approaches to working with men who require complex clinical and criminogenic care within the prison estate.
The Psychology Service at Portlaoise Prison adopts a layered model of care, requiring psychological assessment and intervention based on client needs. As part of a multidisciplinary team, Psychologists engage in regular contact with Prison Governors, Officers, and specialists like Probation Officers, Doctors, Nurses, Psychiatrists, Teachers, Employment, and Resettlement officers.
Duties of this role include:
* Carrying a clinical caseload and contributing to the delivery of a professional Psychology Service appropriate to client and IPS needs
* Performing psychological assessments with the client group and formulating and implementing psychological therapeutic interventions as needed
* Providing professional reports to support the Parole Board process
* Working effectively with other team members and participating in inter-agency work practice and service delivery as required
This opportunity offers excellent CPD opportunities and supervision by Senior Psychologists, as well as line management and support. Assistant Psychologists receive supervision from Staff Grade Psychologists.
Key qualifications and competencies:
Candidates must hold a postgraduate professional qualification in either Clinical or Counselling Psychology, recognized by the Psychological Society of Ireland. Experience in addressing emotional, mental health, and offence-related difficulties with a forensic population is desirable.
