Research Project Manager
Location: Galway, Ireland
Duration: 12 month contract
Imagine your next project leading a critical research team dedicated to deepening the understanding of stroke and improving treatments in neurovascular care at a global industry leader. Our implants and instruments are used by interventional neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons and neurologists to treat patients with conditions resulting from hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke. The Research Project Manager will be part of the Neuro Thromboembolic Initiative (NTI), a group of engineers and scientists dedicated to understanding more about stroke by conducting basic research and developing models and tests to simulate and understand the disease.
The Research Project Manager will be responsible for a research team delivering inputs to the R&D team and the wider neurovascular business by setting up and running research projects relating to cerebral vascular disease and its treatment.
Clear establishment of the link between the research carried out and final medical device design is a critical part of the role. Communication to internal partners and physicians requires knowledge of the company’s research and the state of the art of global research activity in the field.
Responsibilities
* Manage and execute research projects that inform medical device development and deepen the company’s understanding of neurovascular disease states. This will involve:
* Lead a team of 4-5 people.
* Conduct research internally or using external sources to meet R&D needs in the development of devices for endovascular treatment of stroke.
* Coach or mentor more junior team members on research planning, execution, analysis and reporting as needed.
* Collaborate externally with physicians and academics, and internally with R&D, Clinical, Medical Affairs, Marketing, and other business partners to understand unmet needs.
* Provide meaningful output usable by product development teams (e.g., analysis of literature data, test model development, in vitro/in vivo pre-clinical experiments, test protocol development).
* Ensure project timelines, activity completion, and reviews are on time, within budget and compliant, and effectively communicate updates, risks, and issues to management.
* Manage collaborative research projects funded by national and international granting bodies.
* Foster collaborative relationships with leaders in the research community.
* Support field-based colleagues to deliver consistent content and messaging on research findings.
* Stay current on evolving neurovascular disease research to prioritise the portfolio based on biological and endovascular insights.
* Generate internal reports of work for use by R&D in new product submissions, Clinical and Marketing.
* Ensure personal and company compliance with all applicable regulations, policies and procedures for Health, Safety and Environmental compliance for self and direct reports.
* Other duties as needed/assigned by the manager.
How to succeed
Bring your strong background in scientific research and project management to lead the team to significant project outputs. You will also bring:
Education
* PhD or Research Masters in an Engineering or Science discipline or a Medical Degree
Experience and Skills
Required:
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in the medical device industry or similar environment, 3 years with relevant experience in postgraduate research.
* Proven track record for conceptualising and conducting scientific research with outputs such as peer-reviewed articles, white papers, and conference presentations.
* Ability to communicate effectively to senior industry leadership and leaders in the scientific community.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred:
* Experienced in neurovascular disease research and its treatment.
* Development of in-vitro test methods for evaluation of endovascular devices.
Other
* The role is based in Galway, Ireland and is likely to involve moderate travel within EMEA and internationally.
This contract offers a very competitive hourly rate and runs for 12 months.
