Overview
Post Doctoral Researcher (Level 1) in AI-supported Code Generation and Cognitive Processes/Models – University of Limerick. The successful candidate will be a team member within Lero (the Irish Software Research Centre) working on the ABCD project (AI-Based Code Development). The goal is to identify and improve best-practice pedagogy for AI-supported software development and to understand developers' cognitive models and information needs as they evolve code, and to derive best-practice pedagogy for educators.
Responsibilities
* Work on the ABCD project to identify state-of-the-art cognitive models of developers and their information needs regarding source code.
* Assess how AI-supported software development impacts cognitive models and information needs.
* Derive best-practice guidelines for educationalists regarding pedagogical practice towards optimizing developers’ understanding of code.
* Design empirical studies to assess the impact of AI-supported code generation/evolution on cognitive models/information needs.
* Perform studies and derive evidence on the impact of AI-supported code generation/evolution on cognitive models/information needs.
* Disseminate results to the academic community through journal and conference articles.
* Co-supervise PhD candidates on related projects where applicable.
Qualifications
* A Doctoral degree (level 10 NFQ) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Analytics or a closely related discipline.
Detailed responsibilities and expectations
The successful candidate will contribute to the research by:
* Identifying the state-of-the-art in terms of knowledge of developers\' cognitive models of code and their information needs.
* Designing empirical studies to assess the impact of AI-supported code generation/evolution on those cognitive models/information needs.
* Conducting studies and deriving evidence on impacts, and deriving empirical best practices to mitigate them.
* Disseminating results in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
Research and Environment
* Contribute to grant applications and understand the national and international research environment; engage in ongoing research and publications; and consider research impact and potential commercialisation where appropriate.
