Offer description

Applications are invited for a specified purpose post of a UCD Research Fellow within UCD School of Earth Sciences. We invite applications for a position of Research Fellow for a newly funded Research Ireland Research Professorship awarded to Prof. Sarah Gleeson in the School of Earth Sciences (UCD). The research programme is called \"Metals for a Green Ireland: Developing innovative mineral systems and exploration tools\" and is focussed on the provision of the critical and strategic raw materials required for the green transition. The research group will initially comprise 13 members from senior research fellows to PhD students and involves field and laboratory studies and collaboration with industry and other stakeholders. Prof. Gleeson is the Director of iCRAG and the research fellow will be expected to contribute to ICRAGs raw material portfolio and also to build collaborations with colleagues in the School of Earth Sciences at UCD, other iCRAG researchers and internationally. This research fellow will lead a work-package focussed on footprints around base metal deposits in sedimentary basins. In particular, the fellow will be tasked with carrying out original research to develop new machine learning approaches to link different scale geochemical-mineralogical-petrophysical datasets within a 4D geological framework. An initial focus will be identifying the mineralogical and textural controls on the mineralogical and petrophysical signatures of unmineralized and mineralized rocks (with Dr. A Melo, UCD). With Professor Gleeson, the research fellow will directly supervise two post-doctoral researchers and 3 PhD students within this work package. This position requires both a track record in publishing high quality research but also significant experience in working in, or with, the mineral industry. Salary range: €66,548- €72,514 Per Annum Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on 02 April 2026. Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 12:00 noon (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications. UCD do not require assistance from Recruitment Agencies. Any CVs submitted by Recruitment Agencies will be returned.
