Job Summary:
We are seeking an engaging and knowledgeable Lecturer to deliver high-quality educational experiences in the Bar Management Apprenticeship degree program. The ideal candidate will possess significant industry experience in the hospitality, bar or food service sectors and a Level 8 qualification or equivalent.
The successful applicant will inspire apprentices, foster a positive learning environment, and ensure they gain the necessary skills for a successful career in the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning:
* Deliver engaging lectures, seminars, and practical sessions in the assigned module.
* Develop and implement innovative teaching materials and assessment methods that reflect current industry standards and best practices.
* Provide support and mentorship to apprentices in both academic and practical settings.
* Assist in designing, developing, and continuously improving the apprenticeship curriculum to meet industry standards and educational guidelines.
* Collaborate with industry partners to ensure the programme remains relevant and impactful.
Assessment and Evaluation:
* Design, administer, and grade assessments while providing constructive feedback to students.
* Monitor student progress and implement strategies to support those facing challenges in their studies.
* Ensure that work-based learning is aligned with the industry's needs.
Industry Engagement:
* Maintain strong connections with industry stakeholders to provide students with networking opportunities, internships, and real-world insights.
* Facilitate guest lectures, workshops, and field trips (where appropriate) to enhance learning experiences.
Research and Professional Development:
* Stay up-to-date on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in hospitality and food service.
* Engage in professional development activities and contribute to academic research within the field.
Administrative Responsibilities:
* Participate in departmental meetings, contribute to program reviews, and administrate the apprenticeship programme as needed.
* Uphold institutional policies, including student welfare and academic integrity.
Module Areas:
Personal and Academic Development, Effective Business Communications, Food and Beverage Management, Food Safety, Bar Operations, Bar Regulations, Finance and Financial Management, Managing People, Event Management, Sustainability Strategies, Marketing and Procurement
Required Qualifications:
Candidates are expected to have a Level 8 Qualification or equivalent in a cognate discipline; proven teaching excellence and ability to support curriculum development; demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills; excellent interpersonal skills; and the ability to build relations and to work collaboratively. Excellent IT skills and experience using learning management system.

* A keen interest in the subject, a broad knowledge of the topic and experience in the industry
* Up to date with regulations and guidelines and innovation related to the topic
* Ability to design, develop and produce learning and teaching material and deliver the module.
* Lecturers will ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with the College strategy, policy and procedures, contribute to activities which influence leading-edge practice and may also undertake research activity.
* Experience working in a positive, flexible manner.
* Have experience of openly exchanging information and supporting colleagues
* Have an understanding and demonstrate a commitment to Equal Opportunities and Diversity.
Guidelines for Mock Lecture
As part of the interview process, candidates are required to give a 5 – 10-minute mock lecture regarding the interview panel as students. The lecture should cover an item (or items) of the candidate’s choice from an existing (or proposed) course offered by the Faculty or Department.
The candidate is free to use whatever medium and teaching aids are appropriate.
The lecture should not be the first lecture in a course, nor should it be an overview of a course. The lecture will focus on explaining a particular aspect of the course to students who are unfamiliar with the topic. The lecturer should begin by outlining any previous information the students are expected to know (e.g. “I’m assuming you know how to ...... which we covered last week”). Questions will be asked of the lecturer, either during or after the lecture.
