Consultant Histopathologist Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe for 26 hours per week and University Hospital Galway 11 hours per week
This is an appointment to the HSE West & North West Region on a Public Only Consultants' Contract **** by the Health Service Executive.
The initial commitment for this post will be to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe for 26 hours per week and University Hospital Galway 11 hours per week.
This post may be subject to restructuring in the future to facilitate the reorganisation of acute services in line with new clinical models of acute and community services.
It is noted that the post must be congruent with the requirements of, and facilitate implementation of national health policy, the HSE's National Clinical Programmes including commitment to deliver the relevant performance outcomes.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will practise as General Pathologist with particular interest in Gastrointestinal Pathology, Gynaecological Pathology, Dermatopathology and Cytopathology.
The post holder will ensure that all functions and duties are undertaken in a manner that minimises delays for patients and disruption of services.
As well as participating in the on-call rota with consultant colleague specific duties apply to this post:
The successful candidate will take part in the on-call rota in PUH (1:2)
The consultant will partake in the general histopathology diagnostic service based in the histology department of Portiuncula University Hospital and University Hospital Galway.
Information about the organisation
The Department of Histopathology at Portiuncula University Hospital and University Hospital Galway provide a wide range of services including covering a broad spectrum of General Histopathology and Cytology (Non-gynaecological) Specimens.
We actively participate in the Specialist GI Multidisciplinary Meeting.
We have a close working relationship with the Department of Anatomical Pathology at our Regional level 4 Hospital – University Hospital Galway.
We provide an adult autopsy Service to the Hospital and the East Galway Coroner with a full on call service.
The appointment is whole-time, permanent and pensionable.
The annual salary will be as set out in the Public Only Consultants' Contract ****.
Medical Consultants Salary Scales from 1st February ****:
The standard working week applying to the post is: 37 hours per week.
The annual leave associated with the post is: 30 Working Days per annum.
