Circet Ireland’s Power Division are looking for an experienced Design Engineer with knowledge of overhead lines, civils, and cabling activities on power infrastructure new build and maintenance contracts.
Key Responsibilities
Assisting Design Manager to create and execute current work plans.
Liaising with survey and build teams to ensure quality site design.
Experience with structures, general civils etc. associated with the Power Industry.
Ensuring design documents are completed to the required quality, in a timely fashion to ensure targets are met.
Identify design issues and propose solutions to resolve and progress sites to build.
Ownership of site designs to ensure they are delivered as planned.
Manage and assist drafting resources to deliver completed designs.
Preparing design calculations, reports, and detailed drawings.
Lead the detailed design of HV underground cable systems ranging from 10kV to 400kV.
Perform and verify critical engineering calculations, including:
Cable Rating: Current carrying capacity using CYMCAP, Cableizer (steady-state and transient).
Electrical: Short-circuit ratings, voltage drop, and induced sheath voltages.
Mechanical: Detailed cable pulling tension and sidewall pressure reports.
Develop comprehensive bonding and earthing philosophies (Single-point, Cross-bonding).
Specify XLPE cable systems, including conductor sizing (Al/Cu), metallic sheaths, and oversheath requirements.
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills
Previous experience working on ESB/ Power Networks, 8+ years of experience in HV underground cable design, specifically within the 10kV–400kV range.
Degree qualified in Engineering (Electrical, Building Services etc.) or the equivalent.
AutoCAD.
Ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines.
Time management abilities to meet targets.
Software: Proficiency in CYMCAP, AutoCAD, and MS Project. Knowledge of PLS-CADD is a plus.
Standards: Expert knowledge of the Irish Transmission/Distribution Grid Codes and Health & Safety (PSDP) regulations.
Communication: Proven ability to present complex technical solutions to non‑technical stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
