The successful candidate will have hands-on experience in wet chemistry and laboratory testing, Ideally across a variety of products. This is a hands-on role requiring strong initiative, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to quality in a regulated laboratory environment. We are investing in our laboratory and are looking for a candidate who is equally committed, viewing this position not just as a stepping stone, but as a project to nurture, grow, and take ownership of over the long term.Key Responsibilities:* Conduct wet chemistry testing for a diverse range of samples.* Oversee daily lab operations within the designated ISO lab, as well as the R & D lab.* Serve as point of contact for customers, addressing face-to-face queries as well as phone and email communications.* Manage inventory, order chemicals and lab supplies, and oversee sample intake and logging.* Implement, monitor, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).* Identify errors, non-compliance, or non-conformances, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.* Maintain and champion ISO standards, specifically ISO 17025 and ISO 9001.* Report on testing results and sign off on outcomes.* Contribute to the continuous improvement and development of the team and laboratory processes.* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and fire safety within the laboratory environment.* Follow Policies & Procedures (P&P), safety statements, and quality statements.* Conduct risk assessments, mitigate potential risks, and maintain awareness of physical premises issues.* Liaise with the Technical Manager and Senior Management regarding lab operations, improvements, and strategic initiatives.* Conduct and engage in internal audits, maintain documentation, and drive compliance with ISO 17025 requirements.* Create and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions .Lead efforts to achieve and maintain ISO 17025 accreditation, and 9001 certification ensuring continuous quality improvement.Required Skills & Qualifications:* Degree in a Chemistry related discipline.* Minimum 2 years' experience in laboratory operations.* Strong knowledge and practical experience with ISO 17025 and ISO 9001.* Experience with wet chemistry testing and use of HPLC, GC, Spectrophotometer, ICP or similar equipment.* Excellent documentation and IT skills, attention to detail, and ability to enforce compliance.* Ability to implement improvements across the business* Excellent communication skills, including reporting, liaising with management, and interacting with customers.Highly Desirable:* Experience in ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 processes*Experience in internal auditing.* Ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives.* Confidence in identifying risks and implementing mitigations proactively.* Experience with LIMS or CRM systems* Leadership Qualities.Benefits:* 22 days annual leave, which includes closure over the Christmas period.* Attractive and competitive salary, with opportunities for progression as the business grows and key milestones, such as ISO accreditation, are achieved.* Opportunities for progression within the role, including potential to manage and develop a team of laboratory technicians as the lab expands.* Auto-enrolment pension scheme commitment* Online Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).* Birthday leave.* Regular team coffee mornings.* Available budget for Professional development and training opportunities.* Performance-based bonuses* Sociable day time hours**This is a rare opportunity to grow with a long-established family business operating with the energy and ambition of a start-up.
