Role Summary:The Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Director will be the lead medical and clinical governance figure within the centre. As the sole on-site doctor, the post-holder will be responsible for psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, risk management, and overall clinical oversight of patient care. In their capacity as Clinical Director, they will also oversee clinical governance structures, ensure compliance with Mental Health Commission standards, and contribute to service development, staff training, and policy formation.Key Responsibilities:Clinical Duties (Consultant Psychiatrist Role):Act as the responsible Consultant for patients admitted to the residential eating disorder programmeConduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and diagnostic formulations for all patients on admission.Develop and oversee individualised treatment plans, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.Provide weekly or more frequent medical reviews of inpatients as clinically indicated.Manage psychiatric comorbidities such as mood disorders, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD.Lead on physical health monitoring in collaboration with GPs and dietitiansProvide psychoeducation to patients and families regarding psychiatric diagnoses and treatment plans.Support safe discharge planning and continuity of care, liaising with community mental health teams and primary care providers.Provide a 24/7 on call service for clinical emergenciesMultidisciplinary Leadership:Chair weekly multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.Support and collaborate with psychology, nursing, dietetics and other clinical/therapeutic staff in delivering multidisciplinary, holistic and trauma-informed care.Clinical Governance & Director Duties:Serve as Clinical Director for the service, responsible for the quality, safety, and continuous improvement of clinical services.Lead on service compliance with the Mental Health Commission regulations and audits.Develop, review, and implement clinical policies, procedures, and protocols.Support and work alongside the director of services in investigating and managing incidents, complaints, or clinical concerns with transparency and accountability.Ensure that all clinical staff adhere to best practices and ethical standards.Lead or contribute to serious incident reviews, and quality improvement cycles.Participate in clinical governance/senior management meetings as per policies.Essential Requirements:Registration on the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council (IMC) – Psychiatry.Full medical indemnity insuranceExtensive experience in general adult psychiatry, ideally with specific experience in eating disorders and/or trauma.Leadership experience in a mental health setting.Proven ability to work independently and provide sole clinical oversight.Excellent skills in multidisciplinary collaboration, communication, and clinical documentation.Desirable Criteria:Training or certification in eating disorder psychiatry, trauma-informed care or psychotherapy.Experience working in an approved centre or similar inpatient setting.Familiarity with MHC audits and service compliance frameworks.Interest in service innovation, research, or public advocacy around eating disorders.
