This position will support a significant portfolio of commercial devices in terms of compliance, manufacturing & business continuity as well as market expansion and product development. The is a position with high visibility which will provide the right candidate with excellent growth and development potential.The R&D Manager will lead a team of engineers/technicians with responsibility for multiple Sustaining Engineering projects, from Development through Optimization to Maintenance phase of product development. They will provide technical leadership & management responsibility for product design for a range of complex devices & devote a significant portion of their time to managerial, leadership, organisation and staff development responsibilities. They will be a key partner to the Design Assurance, Project Management, Regulatory, Marketing, Operations & Commercial teams in product sustainment forglobal products.Key ResponsibilitiesLead R&D Team responsible for a diverse & complex portfolio of products & technologiesDrives functional excellence initiatives, delivers high quality R&D functional deliverables, and ensures technical excellence for product or technology development.Drives technical projects of varying degrees of complexity from major magnitude and scope to time-bound and production impacting.Provides significant guidance and approval regarding technical strategies and approaches.Provides guidance and training to staff, assists subordinates in attaining career goals, motivates individuals to achieve results, and recruits and maintains a high quality staff.Develops and monitors department budgets.Determines appropriate staff levels, schedules and resources.Co-ordinates sessions with project managers/core team leaders to look for opportunities for staff to learn about new initiatives or volunteer on new projects.Drives the development of department tools and methodologies.Determines project staff assignments and schedules work to meet completion dates and R&D deliverables; drives accountability to timelines & aids with definition of roles & responsibilities.Establishes cross-functional team relationships & a wide network throughout global organization.Provides an overview of the function and role of his/her group, technical skill sets, to other groups and/or divisions.Works cross-functionally in identifying and resolving technical issues.Education & ExperienceRequired qualifications:Level 8 Honors Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field (STEM)Minimum of 7 years of related work experienceMinimum of 3 years of direct or indirect management experience with a passion for leadership and team developmentMedical Device or regulated industry experiencePreferred QualificationsAdvanced degree in technical fieldExperience leading technical teamsPrior R&D experience, experience within Sustaining an advantageRegulatory compliance experience in medical devicesAt Boston Scientific, we recognise that nurturing a diverse and inclusive workplace helps us be more innovative.
