Overview
Staff Nurse - Recovery (Fixed Term Maternity Cover). Location: Sports Surgery Clinic. Job type: Specified Purpose. This is a full-time specified purpose fixed term position for 11 months to cover Maternity leave.
Responsibilities
* The position reports to and is accountable to the CNM 1, Recovery/Theatre Manager and the Director of Nursing in all matters relating to the job.
* Provide, maintain and develop patient-centred care to a high standard in the Theatre and the overall administration of the unit.
* Maintain awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all clinic activities.
* Create a culture of accountability, openness to change, respect for the individual and teamwork that supports the achievement.
* Communicate with relatives and visitors of patients as required.
* Set and monitor standards; actively participate in the clinic’s Accreditation programme and the ethos of Continuous Quality Improvement; implement and maintain procedures in theatre.
* Keep the Director of Nursing apprised of all issues as required; liaise to ensure efficient and effective use of patient care consumables and communicate changes to staff.
* Administrative responsibilities: liaise with the Director of Nursing, Clinical Nurse Managers, Staff Nurses and support staff in the development and maintenance of a high quality service; collaborate on planning future service developments; communicate with Clinical Nurse Managers to ensure continuity of care and safe transfer of patients.
* Promote an environment conducive to learning and best practice to enhance staff retention and industrial relations; ensure health and safety and statutory regulations are adhered to; drive change management as needed.
* Coordinate and maintain equipment and monitor the use of resources to prevent unnecessary expenditure; ensure incidents and near misses are documented and reported; contribute to audits and quality care initiatives; attend mandatory in-service training; monitor infection control policies in liaison with Infection Control.
* Observe daily cleaning standards in the department and report any inadequacies.
Qualifications And Experience
* Be a Registered General Nurse and registered with An Bord Altranais on the live register.
* Have a minimum of 4 years post-registration experience; with at least 3 years experience in theatre/recovery.
* Orthopaedic experience desirable but not necessary; opportunity to train in specialist disciplines such as Orthopaedics.
* Demonstrate experience of managing a team of nurses and ideally experience in an orthopaedic facility.
* Be computer literate; have excellent interpersonal skills and proven written and verbal communication abilities.
* Have the ability to work on own initiative, prioritise and manage a number of issues simultaneously and demonstrate attention to detail; identify potential difficulties and formulate solutions.
* Be free from any defect or disease which would render him/her unsuitable to hold office; be in a state of health as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service; be of good character. Garda Vetting is required for this position.
