Overview
As part of the Underwriting Team you will join a group of experienced technical experts who underwrite commercial combined, property and liability business focused on public sector or related entities.
Working both directly & with Broker partners you will work on opportunities that are aligned to our risk appetite, engaging with internal stakeholders in Customer, Pricing and Portfolio Management and deliver against agreed targets to support our overall growth strategy.
Responsibilities
* Commercial Portfolio Management:
Manage and underwrite Property, Liability, and Commercial Combined portfolios for both direct and broker clients, including new business, renewals, mid-term adjustments, pricing, and cover decisions in line with risk appetite and underwriting standards.
* Performance, Pricing & Risk Analysis:
Analyse portfolio performance, pricing adequacy, and coverage to support profitability, retention, and achievement of financial and operational targets.
* Operational Delivery & Documentation:
Oversee daily portfolio maintenance, renewals, policy issuance, insurance surveys, reinsurance placement support, and accurate file management in compliance with legislative, regulatory, and audit requirements.
* Governance, Compliance & Quality:
Ensure adherence to underwriting authority levels, documentation standards, and internal/external audit requirements while maintaining high underwriting quality and control.
* Stakeholder, Client & Team Support:
Build and maintain strong relationships with direct and broker clients, provide underwriting guidance and training to team members, mentor junior underwriters, and collaborate with internal stakeholders including Claims and IT.
Your Background
* Strong experience in general insurance ideally with some exposure to property and liability/casualty.
* CIP or similar relevant qualification
* Experience in growth, achieving targets in an underwriting environment
* Experience in a New Business role in commercial or general insurance would be an advantage
