Offer Description

We are currently recruiting two Research Assistants to join our research team to develop innovative technologies for topical and transdermal drug delivery. The candidate will work with industrial partners to conduct a specified programme of research aimed at advancing the preclinical development of immunosuppressive therapeutic drug formulations for the management of skin conditions. The project seeks to address key challenges in drug delivery such as enhancing drug bioavailability, controlling drug release kinetics, and ensuring skin compatibility. The qualified individuals will be responsible for conducting the research activities and support preclinical development of both semi-solid and solid drug products for the management of skin conditions.

The successful candidate will possess outstanding communication, planning, organisational, problem-solving, practical, and record-keeping skills. Applicants must hold a primary and/or postgraduate degree in Pharmacy or a related Pharmaceutical Science discipline and have proven experience in the formulation and evaluation of topical and transdermal drug products. The candidate will be based in the School of Pharmacy, UCC and will be working in the lab group led by Dr Sonja Vucen and Prof Abina Crean. Overall, this position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to topical and transdermal drug delivery research and make a meaningful impact on the development of formulations with potential clinical significance in skin diseases.

Project Title:Preclinical development of topical formulations for the treatment of skin conditions

The key duties and responsibilities include:

* To work under the direction of the Principal Investigator/Project Leader.
* To provide assistance in conducting research activities, including planning, organising, conducting, and communicating research studies within the overall scope of a research project.
* To coordinate and perform a variety of independent and team activities involved in the collection, analysis, documentation and some interpretation of information/results.
* To undertake tasks which may include recording results and preparing technical reports including conclusions and recommendations. To coordinate the development of forms, questionnaires and the application of qualitative and quantitative research techniques; write procedures manuals for data collection and coding.
* To present information on research progress and outcomes to others responsible for the research project.
* To provide guidance as required to any support staff and/or research students assisting with the research project, as agreed with the Principal Investigator/Grant holder.
* Ideally to contribute to the publication of findings.
* To confer with the Principal Investigator in developing plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
* To perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Specific Requirements

The successful candidate will be expected to have:

* A graduate (BSc or MSc) qualification in a field of Pharmaceutical sciences.
* Previous research experience in formulation development of topical and transdermal drug delivery systems.
* Appropriate technical competence and accomplishment
* Ability to develop and follow research protocols.
* Good report writing and presentation skills.
* Good analytical skills and computer skills.
* An ability to work independently to a tight schedule.
* Capability of working effectively within a team to achieve results.
* Evidence of excellent organisational, record-keeping and communication skills.
* High levels of initiative are encouraged.
* Ability to perform multiple tasks independently
