Veterinary Practitioner – OOH / Emergency
All Pets Veterinary Hospital, Drogheda, Co Louth
Full-time, Permanent
Salary up to €70,000 DOE plus excellent benefits
Be Part of Something New
This is a rare opportunity to join a brand new ECC and out‑of‑hours service from the very beginning. All Pets Veterinary Hospital is already highly regarded across Ireland for its clinical standards and collaborative team, and this new service is being built to set a new benchmark for emergency care in the region.
A Night Role That Actually Supports Work‑Life Balance
The rota has been carefully structured to give you genuine time to switch off and recharge. You’ll work a 7 nights on, 14 nights off pattern, with shifts running from 6/7 pm until 8/9 am depending on the day. In your second week there is a light back‑up on‑call requirement to help cover unexpected absence, with time off in lieu returned in your next working rotation. Overall, the role averages under 32 hours per week, offering a level of balance that’s hard to find in ECC – without compromising on salary or clinical exposure.
Work at the Cutting Edge of Emergency Care
Based in the Drogheda hospital, you’ll have access to excellent facilities including digital radiography, ultrasound, a fully equipped in‑house lab, modern surgical theatres, and dedicated hospital wards. This is a busy, established hospital, so your caseload will be varied, interesting, and genuinely rewarding – ideal for someone looking to build depth and confidence in emergency medicine.
A Strong, Supportive Team
You’ll be joining a large, experienced, and approachable team with a range of clinical interests across surgery, medicine, dentistry, and ECC. It’s a collaborative environment where people support each other, share knowledge, and take pride in delivering excellent patient care. Development is actively encouraged, with funded CPD, support for further qualifications, and paid professional memberships.
Who This Role Would Suit
This role is ideal for a confident, experienced vet who enjoys emergency work and is comfortable working independently overnight. You must be competent in small animal medical and surgical emergencies, be VCI registered, and, while ECC experience is an advantage, a strong interest and willingness to continue developing in this area is just as important. Due to the nature of the role, it’s not suited to new graduates or those requiring close day‑to‑day mentorship.
