Role Overview
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Senior Maintenance Technician ensures the safe, reliable and efficient operation of a modern wastewater treatment facility. Responsibilities include preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and automated systems, and supporting continuous improvement across plant operations. The role offers a clear progression path to Maintenance Manager for a motivated and experienced tradesperson.
Responsibilities
* Perform preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance on pumps, valves, gearboxes, conveyors and related plant equipment.
* Diagnose faults and implement effective solutions across mechanical, electrical and automation systems.
* Lead equipment upgrades, modifications and installation projects in collaboration with engineering and operations.
* Maintain accurate maintenance records using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
* Act as a senior technical point of contact for maintenance and operations teams.
* Support and lead root‑cause analysis, reliability and performance improvement initiatives.
* Participate in asset‑care planning and maintenance strategy development.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental procedures.
* Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices and junior technicians.
* Foster a culture of teamwork, safety and continuous learning within the maintenance team.
* Collaborate closely with operations, process and environmental teams to optimise plant performance and regulatory compliance.
Essential Experience
* Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a heavy industrial, utilities or wastewater treatment environment.
* Strong troubleshooting and fault‑finding skills in mechanical and/or automation systems.
* Experience with pumps, motors, gearboxes, pneumatics, hydraulics and control systems.
* Strong organisational and communication skills with proven teamwork and leadership ability.
* Full, clean driving licence and valid work authorisation for Ireland.
Desirable
* Previous experience in a supervisory or team lead role.
* Safety certifications including Safe Pass, Manual Handling, First Aid, Confined Space Entry or Working at Height.
* Familiarity with SCADA systems, PLCs or Building Management Systems (BMS).
* Experience working with boilers, CHP, biogas, and low/medium‑voltage electrical systems.
* Computer literacy and experience using CMMS or digital maintenance tools.
Qualifications
* Fully qualified tradesperson in one of the following disciplines:
* Mechanical Fitting
* Mechanical Automation & Maintenance Fitting (MAMF)
* General Fitting or Maintenance Technology
* Electrical or Instrumentation
* Construction Plant Fitting
* Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic
* City & Guilds or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
