The Junior Health & Safety Officer will assist the Health & Safety team in ensuring that all demolition activities are conducted in compliance with legal standards, internal policies, and industry best practices.
This is a hands-on role that involves site inspections, reporting, and supporting safety initiatives to promote a culture of safety across all Hegarty Demolition sites.
Key Responsibilities
Support Health & Safety Compliance
Assist in ensuring compliance with Health & Safety regulations (CDM, HSE, etc.).
Help in maintaining and implementing site-specific risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and other safety documentation.
Monitor and ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across sites.
Site Inspections
Conduct routine health and safety inspections on active demolition sites to identify potential hazards.
Assist in reporting and resolving safety concerns or incidents promptly.
Ensure site safety signage is up to date and visible.
Support the delivery of safety inductions and toolbox talks for new employees and contractors.
Help identify training needs and assist in the coordination of health and safety training sessions for staff.
Assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near-misses, ensuring proper documentation and corrective actions are taken.
Maintain records of incidents and follow up on safety improvements.
Work closely with the Senior Health & Safety Officer, site managers, and contractors to maintain high safety standards.
Attend site meetings to provide input on health and safety matters.
Promote a positive safety culture across all levels of the company.
Documentation & Reporting
Help maintain accurate records, including safety audits, incident reports, and training logs.
Support the development and update of safety procedures and policies as required.
Attention to Detail: Ability to spot hazards and risks on-site and ensure all safety protocols are followed.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to deliver clear safety instructions and report findings.
Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with different teams and contractors to promote safety.
Organizational Skills: Ability to manage documentation and ensure timely completion of reports and inspections.
Problem-Solving: Proactive in identifying potential safety issues and helping develop solutions.
Qualifications & Experience
Basic understanding of Health & Safety regulations in the construction or demolition industry.
1–4 years' experience in a similar Health & Safety role or a related field.
Full Driving Licence (due to travel to various sites).
Preferably experience in the demolition industry, but not essential.
