Senior Electrical Engineer Job Description
The role of Senior Electrical Engineer involves contributing electronic engineering expertise to all stages of medical device development and sustaining engineering activities across multiple projects. This includes developing technological solutions, leading electronic development, providing technical mentorship to junior engineers, and delegating project tasks across the electronics team.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead electronics designs from concept to production.
* Develop a deep understanding of external electrical medical equipment design for new product development projects as well as sustaining engineering and value improvement projects.
* Analyze and assess technical reports and other information to make recommendations for electronic components and design approaches.
* Continuously improve processes and work methodologies by interfacing with peers/cross-functional groups and analyzing activities to improve workflow and work processes.
* Maintain a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by adhering to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.
* Utilize strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Provide Technical support to technology and product development teams as required.
* Manage own time and prioritize tasks based on business priorities.
* Delegate tasks of larger projects across a development team.
* Experience in the technical mentorship of junior engineers is essential.
Requirements:
* Hold an Honours Bachelor's degree in Electronic or Computer Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
* Possess over 5 years' experience in the medical device industry or a similarly regulated field.
* Be familiar with international standards such as IEC 60601 and IEC 61000.
* Demonstrate strong communications and time management abilities.
* Have a strong technical knowledge of electronic design including electronic simulation, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
* Be experienced in designing drive and control electronics for DC, stepper, and BLDC motors.
* Possess lab skills and experience with debugging, prototyping, general test equipment setup for electronic designs.
* Have experience in designing to solve and mitigate EMC issues.
* Display a deep understanding of requirements adherence principles (product specifications, etc.).
* Prior experience working with external vendors is advantageous.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Hold a Master's degree in a relevant field.
* Have experience as a technical leader in more than one project.
* Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT).
