Job Title: Staff Nurse Theatre
Department: Operating Theatre (Orthopaedics)
Role Type: Full time - Specified Purpose contract available.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

We have very exciting opportunities for experienced Orthopaedic Theatre trained Nurses to join our Operating Theatre team.
ROLE PURPOSE
* Role purpose: work within the operating theatre team in Orthopaedics, complying with NMBI codes and Blackrock Clinic policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Registered in the general division of NMBI
* At least 3 years experience in Orthopaedic Theatre
* Evidence of personal professional development
* Ongoing skills training – relevant to care required for patient load
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation
o Utilise assessment skills to determine patient needs on admission
o Document nursing admission assessment thoroughly and accurately
o Continuously assess patient condition
o Identify patient problems for which nursing care will be given
o Develop and document a care plan based on patient needs and best practice
o Update the written or computerised care plan
o Develop appropriate and individualised patient education and discharge planning
o Collaborate with other health care team members within the defined clinical area
o Develop discharge criteria from time of admission
o Plan work to allow time for training, meetings etc.
o Provide safe, comprehensive nursing based on current standards and research
o Administer the developed care plan consistently and flexibly
o Fulfil prescribed orders completely and accurately
o Provide care with minimal supervision in a timely, accurate and safe manner
o Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues
o Advocate for patients, respecting dignity and confidentiality
o Function effectively in an emergency situation
o Adapt to changing workloads
o Know and practice within legal requirements including those set by NMBI
o Evaluate and update care plans appropriately
o Evaluate personal nursing practice against standards of care
o Participate in quality assurance and data collection as applicable
o Comply with infection prevention and control policies
o Promote safety, health, welfare and social wellbeing of patients; maintain dignity and confidentiality
o Maintain accurate written/electronic nursing records and care plans
o Take responsibility for own competency and contribute to team development
o Co-operate with ICT system introduction and use
o Ensure records are protected and managed per policy and legislation
o Work closely with colleagues to provide seamless service
o Participate in audits and evaluation of care provision where applicable
2. 2. Communication Skills
o Maintain documents per clinic policies
o Update documentation for physical and emotional symptoms and changes
o Report relevant information to appropriate nursing personnel
o Respond to patient/family requests and questions
o Communicate effectively with colleagues and the health care team
o Recognise own limitations and seek assistance
o Attend and contribute to staff meetings and team briefings
o Communicate to avoid antagonism and reduce conflict

o Function within NMBI and hospital policies, procedures and standards
o Support the Mission Statement of Blackrock Clinic
o Observe appropriate lines of authority
o Demonstrate flexibility to assist in other areas as required
o Set annual goals with CNM and continue personal development
o Seek education opportunities beyond those provided by the hospital
o Provide supervision to other nursing staff when appropriate

o Participate in education of learners and orient new personnel
o Present a professional appearance and be punctual
o Act as "Acting Up" when assigned
o Comply with relevant policies and procedures
