Ballymote Community Nursing Unit is registered to accommodate 32 male or female residents who require long-term residential care or who require short-term respite, convalescence or palliative care.The nursing home is located in a residential area a short walk from the town of Ballymote. The building is single-storey and is decorated in a home-like way. To promote independence, and be able to communicate effectively with the resident and with the multidisciplinary team.Main responsibilities:To deliver quality care to each residentTo assist residents with intimate and personal care, based on assessed needsTo assist residents with eating and drinking where and when appropriateTo promote and encourage a normal nutritional dietTo assist residents with mobilizingTo assist with diversional therapy i.e. activities, movement to music etc.Assist nursing staff with all the resident care and the care of the dyingBe familiar with the control of infectionReport any changes in residents' condition to senior nurse on dutyAt night to ensure residents sleep patterns are not unduly disrupted by excessive noiseand bright lightsDocument any records you are required to keep in the course of your duty.Health & Safety:Due to the high dependency of the residents, close supervision day and night is vitalfor their safety and well-beingTo be aware of health and safety policies within Nazareth Care IrelandTo report any faulty equipment e.g. lifting hoists, bath hoists, etc. to your immediate supervisorTo familiarize yourself with the use of transfer slide sheets, handling beltsUse hoists only with a second staff member presentEnsure you understand policies and procedures with regard to Evacuation and Fire.Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications:Have FETAC Level 5 and/or other relevant trainingHave previous experience of caring for the elderly preferably in a residential settingTo adopt a person-centered approach to care planningExperience of working with others in a team settingDemonstrate evidence of continuing professional developmentAbility to communicate effectively at all levelsHave a genuine interest in caring for older peopleShow a positive attitude and be open to changing needs within Nazareth Care IrelandTo participate in care planning with nursing and other relevant staffBe proficient in Manual Handling and Patient Moving SkillsThis job description outlines the main functions and responsibilities of the post and is subject to review and amendment according to business needs within Nazareth House.However, it is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties involved, consequently, you may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post which may be assigned to you from time to time.
