Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Junior Buyer will support the purchasing function by sourcing materials, components, and services required for mechanical engineering projects. The role focuses on cost, quality, lead time, and supplier reliability while ensuring compliance with company procedures.The Junior buyer will be a competent supply chain resource who will specialise in implementing cost-effective & timely purchases of all goods and services, as required by the company and its clients.The Junior buyer will work closely with delivery teams to ensure all materials arrive on time and within budget. Ensure all costs are allocated to the correct contracts and cost codes.It is a rewarding role, one in which you will play a key part in the continued success and growth of BMD, both which are dependent on the competency and motivation of our People.Main Duties & Responsibilities:Responsibilities / Duties:Raise purchase orders and maintain accurate procurement recordsSource and evaluate suppliers for mechanical and fabrication materials, tools, equipment, and subcontracted servicesRequest and compare quotations to support cost-effective purchasing decisionsTrack order status, expedite deliveries, and resolve supply delaysSupport contract negotiations and supplier onboardingWork closely with engineering, project management, stores, and finance teams to understand requirementsMonitor inventory levels and support stock control activitiesEnsure all procurement activity aligns with quality, safety, and compliance standardsMaintain supplier data, price lists, and documentationAssist with continuous improvement of procurement processesAbility to organise and support annual stock takes.Provide feedback continuously with regards our IT systems that track shipments, inventory and the supply of goods, in order to make improvements.Measure and report procurement savings and cost avoidance to agreed standards.Comply with all company policies and proceduresUnderstand the customer requirements and fulfilling sameClearing and resolving queries with Finance relating to payment of suppliers.Manage an efficient flow of materials to ensure workshops and sites receive material on timeOther ad hoc duties as assigned by the Procurement Manager.Person SpecificationEducation, Training & Experience1-2 years' experience in procurement, supply chain, or an administrative/commercial support role (engineering/manufacturing environment preferred)Working towards or interested in pursuing a procurement qualification (e.g., CIPS) is desirableProficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access).Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with many stakeholders to satisfy.Strong attention to detailAbility to gather and analyse data and to work with figuresExcellent organizational skills with the ability to prepare and maintain records and files in an automated systemExcellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to quickly build relationships with relevant partiesFlexibility and the ability to handle multiple requests from across several areas.High level of motivation with a strong sense of customer (internal and external) with focus and teamwork.Self-starter with the ability to work on own initiative under minimal supervisionKnowledge of process pipe, fittings and in linesPower BI knowledgeWhat's in it for you?Our comprehensive benefits package includes:Competitive SalaryCompany Pension Scheme21 days holiday (increasing with service)24/7 Digital DoctorLife AssuranceIncome ProtectionEmployee Assistance ProgrammeEmployee Review and Development OpportunitiesPaid Tuition SupportAttractive Employee Referral SchemeSports and Social ClubServices AwardsOur team are at the heart of our success, and we thank our colleagues for their relentless commitment and drive for excellence in everything they do.BMD is an equal opportunity employer.
