HECI has successfully constructed and operates two 100 MW Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Ireland and is developing Shannonbridge B, a cutting-edge hybrid project consisting of a Synchronous Condenser and long duration BESS, scheduled to enter operation in late 2025.

Position Summary
The Operations and Maintenance Site Operator will serve as the primary on-site technical professional responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Shannonbridge B hybrid energy storage facility. This critical role encompasses both Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Synchronous Condenser operations, requiring expertise in advanced power system technologies that support Ireland's renewable energy integration and grid stability objectives.
The successful candidate will ensure optimal system performance, conduct and manage preventive and corrective maintenance activities, monitor system operations through advanced SCADA platforms, and serve as the first line of response for operational issues and emergencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Primary Operations Management
* Monitor performance of BESS and Synchronous Condenser systems to ensure optimal performance and grid compliance, support real-time operational decision, respond to system alarms, coordinate with EirGrid control room as required.
* Perform daily checks, parameter verification, and performance analysis to ensure facility is compliant with Grid Code and Service Agreements. Provide technical support for system services
* Serve as primary emergency response coordinator for site incidents, equipment failures
- Technical Maintenance and Troubleshooting
* Mange scheduled maintenance on battery modules, inverters, transformers, switchgear, cooling systems, and synchronous condenser equipment
* Troubleshooting using specialized test equipment and execute corrective maintenance activities to minimize system downtime and maintain availability targets above 95%
- Safety and Regulatory Compliance
* Ensure compliance with Site Safety Plan, including regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and emergency response drills
* Experience of MV and HV switching, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for high-voltage systems
* Support for HECI's environmental commitments and sustainable energy objective, compliance with environmental management systems and reporting requirements.
- Documentation and Reporting
* Maintain comprehensive operational logs, maintenance records, performance reports
* Prepare detailed monthly operational and incident reports, fault analyses, and corrective action documentation for management and regulatory authorities
* Document system modifications, parameter changes, and configuration updates in accordance with change management procedures
Required Qualifications
- Education and Certifications
* Minimum: Level 6 qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related technical discipline
* Preferred: Level 7/8 degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or Power Systems Engineering
* Safe Electric Registration (RECI) or equivalent electrical competency certification
* Arc flash safety certification and electrical safety training
* High Voltage Authorized Person certification up to 38kV
* Valid driving license
- Skills and Experience
* Minimum 5 years' experience in power generation, transmission, or energy storage operations, with knowledge of Power System Operations, Energy Storage Technologies, Generators and or Synchronous Condenser Technology
* Demonstrated expertise in battery energy storage systems, including lithium-ion technology, BMS operations, power electronics, synchronous machines, rotating equipment, or conventional power plant operations
* Advanced knowledge of SCADA, energy management platforms and industrial automation systems
* Knowledge of grid codes, system services, frequency regulation, and voltage control mechanisms, AC/DC systems, power electronics, inverters, transformers, and switchgear operations

Compensation and Benefits
* Location: On-site position at Shannonbridge B facility with occasional travel to other HECI sites
* Shift work including days, nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotational basis and on-call availability for emergency response and critical system events
