Clinical Nurse Specialist Arthroplasty
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Arthroplasty is an advanced practice role responsible for providing expert clinical care, education, and leadership in the management of patients undergoing joint replacement surgery.
Key Responsibilities:
* Enter PROMs (patient reported outcome measures) at pre-operative clinic and post-operative nurse led clinics at agreed intervals as per consultant.
* Provide support to patients during their arthroplasty journey.
* Order and review x-rays (once competent).
* Schedule inter-disciplinary referrals as required.
* Redevelop a joint education school to prepare patients for early discharge and reduced length of stay.
* Run reports as requested by Quality / Director of Nursing / Clinical Lead.
Managerial:
* Provide an efficient, effective, and high-quality service, respecting the needs of each patient, family, and/or carer.
* Effectively manage time and caseload to meet changing and developing service needs.
* Continually monitor the service to ensure it reflects current needs of UPMC Whitfield Hospital.
* Implement and manage identified changes.
* Maintain confidentiality in relation to patient records.
* Represent the specialist service at local, national, and international level as required.
Professional Accountability and Development:
* Provide specialist information and education to patients and their families about improving their understanding, coping, and effective management post joint replacement.
* Provide formal and informal teaching to patients/clients, families, healthcare providers, including students and trained nurses, and care assistants.
* Participate in in-house multidisciplinary presentations and teaching to staff in various acute hospitals.
* Be self-directed in learning to ensure continued professional credibility.
* Demonstrate a commitment to yearly Engagement and Competency meetings.
Quality & Audit:
* Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives related to arthroplasty care.
* Identify, critically analyze, disseminate, and integrate nursing and other evidence into the area of arthroplasty.
* Establish, implement, and evaluate audit programs of the service, quality of care, and CNS current practice, in line with local and regional developments.
* Use outcomes of audit to improve service provision.
Health & Safety:
Ensure that effective safety procedures are developed and managed to comply with statutory obligations.

Qualifications & Experience:
* Registered nurse on the active Register of Nurses and Midwives held by An Bord Altranais agus Cnimhseachais na hireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be eligible to be so registered.
* A minimum of 5 years post-registration full-time experience in the General Nurse division of the register.
* A minimum of 2 years' full-time experience in the specialist area of Orthopaedic nursing.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
