Overview
Principal Water Resources Engineer (Mining) at WSP in the UK & Ireland. This role involves delivering water resource consulting for mining projects, including hydrology, hydraulics, water balance, flood modelling and water quality, with opportunities for international travel and collaboration within the Mine Water team across the UK, Ireland and internationally.
Responsibilities
* Deliver consulting services to internal and external clients in conceptual model development, hydraulics, engineering design, hydrology, mine water management, stormwater management, water balance assessment, dam break assessment, flood modelling and flood risk assessment, water quality assessments and water conservation & demand management.
* Direct and review water resource aspects of a range of international mining and water resource projects, including environmental assessments, environmental permitting, and engineering design projects.
* Assist with developing projects and services which support climate change reporting, resilience and adaptation, including nature-based solutions.
* Project coordination, managing and participating actively in the development of budgets, schedules and plans for projects and proposals.
* Mentor junior staff within the Mine Water team to support their career development, technical excellence and commercial awareness.
* Project based travel and site work, working both in the UK, Ireland and internationally.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary project teams on local, regional and international consulting projects, so they are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to client and WSP's standards.
* Display a safety-first attitude in line with an interdependent health and safety culture, promoting positive health and safety, raising safety issues through the appropriate channels and adhering to WSP’s health and safety policy and procedures.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in engineering, hydrology or a related field; postgraduate qualification in engineering or environmental management is desirable.
* Previous demonstrable experience conducting hydrologic and hydraulic assessments and design of water management infrastructure.
* Technical report writing skills and ability to guide/peer review contributions.
* Experience of project management or coordination and financial tracking skills.
