We are currently seeking a highly-motivated Staff Nurse to join our team in Carlow/Kilkenny Children’s Service. Contract Type: 2 Year Contract. Contract Hours: 20 hours per week. Salary Scale: €34,492 to €50,362 pro rata per annum. Salary scales are subject to LSI’s (Long Service Increments). Annual Leave Entitlement: 33 days pro rata per annum. This pay scale is subject to increases in 2025 in accordance with the recent WRC agreement towards enhanced pay adjustments in Section 39 organisations.
Responsibilities
* Create an environment which promotes each child’s participation in terms of choice and decision-making and enables each child to reach their highest level of independence.
* Provide leadership, supervision and support to all support staff in the provision of clinical and care support services across multiple locations.
* Identify and understand the health and medical needs of each child and ensure their needs are met appropriately.
* Coordinate, assess, plan, implement and review care for children according to service standards including TUSLA and HIQA regulations.
* Work in partnership with parents/carers/the team to facilitate links with the child’s future educators.
* Ensure the implementation of agreed programmes of care for each child in ways that promote dignity and respect.
* Provide support and/or mentorship to staff and students.
* Identify training needs and deliver training to non-nursing staff as required.
* Ensure the care and hygiene of treatment rooms, bathrooms and toileting facilities are of the highest standards.
* Plan and manage bus routes and time schedules and act as bus escort for transportation of the children to and from home as required.
* Work with individual children in a range of settings, ensuring the safety of the children at all times.
* Carry out vaccination of service owners and staff as required.
* Display appropriate sensitivity while working closely with families and service users.
* Contribute the functional and technical knowledge and skills to the service; plan and organise activities and resources efficiently and effectively.
* Manage time effectively and organise assigned caseloads.
* Handle unexpected scenarios with persistence and flexibility to achieve goals.
* Work in accordance with Enable Ireland’s Code of Practice, Guidelines for working with Services Users and other National Policies and Procedures.
* In consultation with the inter/multidisciplinary team be responsible for the design, implementation and evaluation of the programme of activity for each preschool child.
* Liaise with and organise Paediatric and Psychology Clinics as appropriate, and liaise with Health Care Professionals.
The successful candidate will have
Essential Criteria:
* A recognised validated University Degree or an equivalent qualification in Intellectual Disability/General or Children’s Nursing.
* Must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
* Be eligible to work in the state.
* A Full Driver’s Licence and access to own transport.
Desirable Criteria:
* Commitment to working in partnership with parents/carers and children in a family-centred manner.
* Good knowledge of child protection and child development.
* Understanding of residential respite and day services; understanding of HIQA standards.
* Experience of working with children with disability.
