Please contact to discuss any requirements The Role The Scheme Director will work jointly with the current Scheme Director as part of the leadership team for an individual GP Training Scheme. Together, they will deliver high standard, coordinated training for doctors undergoing specialist training in general practice under the governance of the College's National Training Programme. This role will involve close collaboration to ensure continuity and quality across all programme activities. The duties and responsibilities are those of the Assistant Scheme Director with additional responsibilities for Scheme Director and will include, but are not limited to, the following: Shared leadership of the scheme's educational and operational activities. Active coordination with the existing Scheme Director to maintain consistency and alignment. Agreement between both Scheme Directors to nominate one individual as the primary point of contact for national-level activities and communications.* Scheme Director Key Result Areas Overall management of the scheme, assigning duties and responsibilities as appropriate to the Assistant Scheme Director and Scheme Administrator. Cooperate and work with the National and Regional Training Directors in the coordination of training at a regional level. Contribute actively, including by membership of committees and working groups, to regional and national efforts to manage the quality and consistency of GP training. Interface with the wider general practitioner community in the region. Liaison with local primary care management and hospitals to ensure the continuity of administrative support and resources for the scheme. Liaise with GP Trainers and ensure adequate educational and organisational support is provided. Lead on educational planning and scheduling for the scheme in conjunction with the national programme. Take overall responsibility for dealing with trainee performance, attendance, discipline, and trainee support issues where intervention or remedial action is required and escalating these matters to the Scheme Advisory Committee. Manage and oversee any budgetary matters for the scheme. Assistant Scheme Director Key Result Areas Undertake the full range of duties required when carrying out teaching, assessing and facilitating small-group sessions with trainees (both face-to-face and virtually, as appropriate). Assist with curriculum planning, including the development of teaching materials and resources at scheme level. Undertake curriculum delivery through small group and plenary teaching and facilitation. Actively promote reflective practice and professionalism among trainees. Provide personal support and trainee mentorship. Undertake trainee assessments and manage formative and summative feedback relating to these assessments. Regularly monitor and support trainee progression, including their educational portfolio, by providing guidance and intervening appropriately when needed. Contribute to the competency progression review process. Contribute, when required, to the development of assessment instruments. Provide GP Trainer and hospital supervisor support and assist with the management of the delivery of day release, including monitoring of trainee attendance. When not engaged in teaching, undertake a range of responsibilities such as quality assurance activities (e.g. visits to GP practices and hospital teaching sites), contributing to the continuous improvement of the training scheme, participating in trainee selection supporting curriculum evaluation, and contributing to national committees. Collaborate and co-operate with the Scheme Director and the National Programme in the performance of any assigned duties. Participate in professional development activities and annual performance reviews/job chats Expected to attend both educational conferences for scheme directing teams each calendar year, with attendance at a minimum of one being mandatory. Experience & Qualifications: Essential: If resident in Ireland: A fully qualified GP with MICGP, current member of the College in good standing. Be registered with the Irish Medical Council of Ireland on the Specialist Division for General Practice. Be enrolled on and in compliance with the ICGP Professional Competence Scheme. Must currently hold a part-time clinical appointment in general practice in Ireland, equivalent to at least four sessions per week and you will be required to continue to meet these criteria if appointed. You must also have held such an appointment within the past two years. If resident outside of Ireland: (please contact if this applies to you) Eligible for MICGP. Eligible to register with the Irish Medical Council of Ireland on the Specialist Division for General Practice. Must enroll on and comply with the ICGP Professional Competence Scheme if appointed. All applicants: Have substantial full time or part time postgraduate medical experience in GP. Extensive experience of GP training either in Ireland or internationally. Familiarity with the College's GP Training Curriculum, the vision for National Specialist Training Programme and demonstrable commitment to the continuous improvement of the training programme. A demonstrable record of leadership and management in postgraduate medical education/ training. Desirable: Have been engaged as Assistant Scheme Director (or equivalent legacy role) for a minimum of three years. Strong familiarity with the ICGP Report of GP Training Task Force (March 2019), the GP Training Curriculum and developments in Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs). Extensive experience of educational leadership. Have demonstrable experience in quality assurance and continuous improvement in higher education. Experience of the promotion of reflective practice. Evidence of working collaboratively in a professional setting.
