The Role

The District Inspector will oversee work programmes in their District within the region, or within the Building Maintenance Unit (BMU), and will report to the Regional Manager, the Head of the BMU or any person designated by their Manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the post may include any or all of those listed below and as may be assigned from time to time:


•

Arranging and supervising maintenance and small capital works contracts under the Capital Works Management Framework;


•

Monitoring quality of work undertaken by external contractors;


•

Taking a hands-on approach to Health and Safety issues including implementation of OPW's Health & Safety policies;


•

Inspecting and reporting on properties within their remit for the Region;


•

Surveying and recording building conditions on relevant software;


•

Ensuring a high standard of service delivery to all customers;


•

Demonstrating the ability to resolve any technical or resource issues which may arise in the day-to-day running of the office;


•

Using any relevant IT systems following appropriate training;


•

Adhering to all OPW protocols in relation to procurement and payment (of services and/or works) to include:

o

arranging tender competitions for maintenance works and placing contracts via the Purchase to Pay system;

o

authorising payments within relevant authority level;

Please note: The above is a general guide to the key duties and responsibilities of the role and is not an exhaustive description. Other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the role may be assigned from time to time.

Working Environment

The work is divided between field and office. The successful candidate will be based in a regional office and will be required to travel regularly within their assigned region. They may also be required to travel occasionally to other regions for meetings, conferences, training etc. Travel and subsistence will be paid in line with Civil Service rates when applicable.

The OPW's Blended Working Policy is developed and implemented in accordance with the Civil Service Blended Working Policy in line with business needs, with a commitment to a blended working environment to work office based and/or onsite for a minimum of 2 days per week (subject to Business needs). Appointees may apply for blended working following a successful probationary period.

Training and Development

Professional, technical, ICT and management training is provided to keep staff up-to-date on relevant developments. Opportunities to attend relevant courses are proactively encouraged.
