Occupational Therapist - Support Needs Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team as a Support Needs Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a caseload of children and adults with complex support needs, providing assessment, intervention, and evaluation of treatment programmes.

You will work closely with members of the clinical team, including Consultant Psychiatrists, Behaviour Specialists, Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Social Care Workers, and Assistance Support Workers, to meet the person-centred needs of service users on your caseload.

Your duties will include completing environmental assessments to ensure that an individual's environment is accessible to their specific sensory and/or physical support requirements, carrying out reviews of service users' postural support needs, and completing basic and complex seating assessments as required.

You will also promote purposeful engagement in self-care, leisure, and productive pursuits for all age profiles, with due regard for the individual's abilities and preferences, and support service users transition back into the home after being hospitalised as required.

In addition, you will facilitate evidenced-based group therapy programmes in line with the assessed needs of service users, complete detailed reports for internal/external stakeholders, and ensure the quality of documentation of all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and reports are in accordance with policy and professional standards.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

* Hold a Degree/Masters in Occupational Therapy from a 3rd level institution offering a programme of study accredited by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
* Be registered with CORU or show proof of pending registration at application stage.
* Knowledge of the Judgement Support Framework and experience supporting compliance with same.
* Knowledge of individual care planning and experience contributing to individual risk assessment.
* Have at least three years post-qualification work experience as an Occupational Therapist preferably within disability services and/or mental health services.
* Evidence of a commitment to continuous professional development (CPD).

Others:

1. Maintain files and records on service users in accordance with the records policy.
2. Complete any mandatory trainings assigned through Nua Healthcare's Learning Management System.
3. Attend internal/external conferences/courses relevant to practice.
4. Participate in and follow up on actions set or learnings identified from clinical supervision and performance appraisals.
5. Quality Improvement: Participate in the annual Occupational Therapy Department Strategic Planning meetings and support the attainment of strategic goals.
6. Contribute to the sharing of knowledge and best practice both within the Occupational Therapy Department and wider Service.
7. Promote the Nua Healthcare Occupational Therapy Department at both a local and national level.
8. Health & Safety: Promote a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety legislation.
9. Actively participate in risk management issues, identify risks, and take responsibility for appropriate action.
10. Report any incidents/accidents/near misses in accordance with policies and procedures.
11. Have a knowledge of HIQA and Mental Health Commission Standards as they apply to the role.
