Role Summary
The appointed person will be assigned to assist the Director of Nursing in the overall operations and day-to-day running of the home, manage resources, assign work, monitor quality of staff performance, and assume the role of person in charge in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
The post is full time and permanent following a probationary period of six months.
Qualifications
Must be registered with An Bord Altranais.
Must have a minimum of five years post-registration experience.
Must have knowledge of all relevant legislation and HIQA Standards for Residential Care Settings.
Prior experience as an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is necessary.
Post Holder Responsibilities
Assume responsibility in assisting the Director of Nursing in the clinical care of patients and operation of the home; promote an organizational culture that incorporates person-centred care; maintain residents' independence; liaise with clients and families to promote wellbeing and healthy lifestyle; demonstrate clinical expertise; manage resources efficiently; supervise daily home management; facilitate team building and motivation; ensure policies, procedures, and standards are developed, revised, and implemented; possess in-depth knowledge of legislative requirements and HIQA National Standards.
Key Duties
Clinical Governance
Assume the role of Person in Charge in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
Develop and evaluate quality initiatives and clinical audits to ensure best-quality services and practices within available resources.
Monitor and investigate complaints, untoward clinical incidents and near misses.
Encourage and facilitate staff innovation in nursing practice.
Provide clinical support and mentorship to qualified nurses, assessing competencies in line with current best practice and An Bord Altranais Professional Guidelines for Nurses working with Older People.
Human Resources
Implement annual staff development and performance reviews.
Manage staff rosters, sickness and absenteeism in accordance with company policies.
Participate in the clinical supervision of CNMs, Nurses and Care Assistants.
Assist with recruitment, interviewing and selection of staff.
Education
Ensure staff receive induction/orientation and opportunities for in-service training and other educational programmes.
Facilitate learning from nursing practice through reflection and critical incident analysis.
Assist the Director of Nursing on the development and maintenance of a staff training programme, including delivery of training as appropriate.
Self Development
Stay cognisant of the latest developments in health care and nursing practice and maintain a professional portfolio.
Attend and participate in conferences, seminars and other research/educational activities regionally.
