Overview
Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Surveillance Scientist within UCD National Virus Reference Laboratory.
The National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL) plays an important role in the Irish Health Services as the principal diagnostic and reference service for clinicians investigating virus infections. The NVRL currently offers a repertoire of over 170 tests for the diagnosis of at least 45 different pathogens and performs in excess of 1 million tests annually.
Notification of infectious diseases is a statutory requirement in Ireland (Infectious Diseases (Amendment) (No. 3) Regulations 2003). The primary function of the Surveillance Scientist role is to notify all infectious diseases diagnosed by the NVRL to Departments of Public Health and the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) through Computerised Infectious Disease Reporting (CIDR). They are responsible for collaborative activities between the NVRL and HPSC in relation to infectious disease notifications.
Responsibilities
Notify all infectious diseases diagnosed by the NVRL to Departments of Public Health and HPSC via CIDR.
Collaborate with NVRL and HPSC on infectious disease notification processes.
Qualifications and Experience
Communication and interpersonal skills
Information management
Data extraction, analysis and interpretation
Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
Experience with LIMS, WinPath, Enterprise, ISO15189
Salary and Appointment
Snr Medical Scientist_2010 (5179_X)
Salary Scale: €62,448 - €83,514 Per Annum.
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
