This role requires two days per week in our Kilkenny HQ.
The primary goal of this role is to ensure an optimal user experience for clients through maintaining healthy, high-performing databases, achieved through continuous monitoring using Redgate Monitor.
The secondary responsibility involves generating ad-hoc reports and performing data updates where the user interface does not support client data changes.
The tertiary focus includes managing deployments across development, UAT, pre-production, and production environments, with database versioning handled via Redgate Flyway.
We are a dynamic, growth-oriented organization seeking a proactive and skilled SQL Database Administrator to enhance and maintain our database environments, utilizing Redgate tools extensively for monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Database Monitoring & Maintenance:
o Proactively use Redgate tools to identify, diagnose, and resolve performance and reliability issues.
o Continuously monitor and fine-tune database systems for optimal performance.
2. Deployment & Version Control:
o Manage and execute database migrations using Redgate.
o Maintain robust version control across multiple environments.
3. Performance Optimization:
o Optimize T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexes.
o Implement proactive database tuning strategies.
4. SQL Operations:
o Execute and troubleshoot SQL scripts for data fixes, batch processing, or analytics.
o Perform manual database updates when necessary.
o Generate reports and extract datasets via custom SQL queries.
5. Backup & Recovery:
o Develop, implement, and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies.
o Test data recovery procedures regularly.
6. Collaboration & Support:
o Support internal database needs in collaboration with development teams.
o Provide technical support and expertise without direct client-facing responsibilities.
7. Continuous Improvement:
o Stay current with SQL Server and Redgate toolset advancements.
o Explore emerging technologies like DynamoDB to enhance infrastructure.
Requirements
* Preferred Qualifications:
o Relevant IT or Database Administration certification or equivalent practical experience.
o Minimum 2-3 years of practical DBA experience.
* Technical Skills:
o Strong proficiency with SQL Server and T-SQL.
o Familiarity with Redgate tools is desirable but not essential.
* Desirable Skills:
o Interest or exposure to DynamoDB or other NoSQL databases.
* Soft Skills:
o Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
o Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
o Proactive, self-starter attitude.
