Job Title: Lead Quantity Surveyor
Job Description:
The successful candidate will work alongside a dedicated team of professionals in the pre-construction phase of various projects. Key responsibilities include co-ordinating with bid teams, colleagues in the estimating department, and other members of the wider Pre-construction team.
Key tasks include managing and delivering cost estimates at various stages in scheme development, scope definition, and design maturity to meet challenging timescales, including multiple iterations of budget and target prices.
The role requires contribution to optioneering and feasibility assessments, value engineering proposals, liaison with bid and project teams representing a range of disciplines to develop and refine proposals and budget costs through to final target price estimates.
Liaising with clients, designers, and other consultants, quantity surveyors, and other third parties is also an essential part of this role.
Organizing and administering tender documents, correspondence, enquiries, and quotations is another key responsibility.
Challenging and contributing to all aspects of the bid preparation and submission, investigating safe and cost-effective solutions are critical skills required for this position.
Collections and distribution of feedback and maintaining awareness of the latest techniques are also key elements of the job.
Preparing cost estimates from first principles using Candy estimating software and organising and participating in bid preparation and review meetings are further responsibilities.
Preparation of tender summary information and priced risk and opportunity registers, preparing estimate information for bid review meetings, and handover to project teams are all essential duties.
Ensuring organisation and approval for measurement and production of measured quantities from drawings or BIM models for incorporation in tender enquiries and ensuring all cost data used is up-to-date and updated as required.
Attending mid/post tender interviews with Client teams on bids under consideration and producing handover documentation to Project Commercial Teams on successful bids are further critical elements of the role.
Developing and maintaining relationships with external Clients and Consultants, liaison and reporting to corporate for compliance, incorporation, and approval of corporate governance are final essential responsibilities.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Level 8 Honours Bachelor Degree or equivalent level
* Suitable civil engineering project experience in management, engineering, or commercial roles with contractors
* Proven estimating experience in civil engineering bids, particularly roads, bridges, rail, marine, or water sectors
* Considerable variety in types of work and disciplines priced, with understanding of methods and typical production rates/outputs
* Demonstrable understanding of common forms of contract and methods of measurement used in the Irish market
* Leadership and management skills with experience of managing a team to achieve deadlines
* Expert commercial acumen and problem-solving skills
* Excellent client-facing and supply chain-facing skills
* Strong and effective communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to perform multiple tasks at a high level of quality
* Ability to work well under pressure and within a strict deadline environment
* Experience of Candy Estimating software preferred but not essential as training will be provided
