The Vacancy
We are seeking a Structural Design Engineer with experience in designing water and wastewater infrastructure for Water Utilities and Contractors. This is a hybrid opportunity based in Sligo, Ireland.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver structural engineering designs, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, including Eurocodes and Uisce Éireann and/or UK AMP8 Utilities’ specifications.
Prepare detailed engineering calculations and technical or design reports for various project stages, from feasibility to detailed design.
Assist Senior Engineers in the full project lifecycle, including the preparation of technical specifications.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (Civil, MEP, and Process) to ensure integrated design solutions.
Conduct site inspections and structural surveys, produce related reports, and ensure compliance with company quality assurance procedures.
Utilise industry-standard design and modelling software to produce efficient and accurate structural outputs.
Actively engage in mentorship from senior staff while providing guidance to junior engineers and technicians.

Key Requirements

Minimum Level 8 qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering.
Minimum of 4 years relevant work experience in a design consultancy, with experience in water and wastewater infrastructure design.
Proven competency in the structural design of water‑retaining structures and the application of Eurocodes and British Standards. Must be proficient in industry‑standard design software.
Familiarity with Uisce Éireann standards and/or experience working within UK AMP Frameworks is highly desirable.
Experience in dealing with clients.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team to meet tight deadlines.
A proactive attitude with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Sligo, Republic of Ireland, Jennings O’Donovan began in 1950.
