Role Overview: Moofwd is seeking a Lead AI Research & Development Engineer to drive the design, delivery, and evolution of advanced AI solutions.
This role combines hands-on technical expertise with people leadership, setting the strategic and technical direction for AI initiatives while guiding a team of AI engineers.
The ideal candidate will partner with senior stakeholders to translate business goals into scalable, secure, and production-ready AI systems.
Required Experience & Qualifications: Minimum 5 years of professional experience in AI, machine learning, or related engineering roles Proven track record in leading AI/ML initiatives in production environments Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams Strong capability in architectural decision-making and setting technical direction Key Responsibilities: Technical Leadership & Strategy: Define and drive the technical vision for AI and ML initiatives across the organization Evaluate emerging AI technologies and guide their adoption where relevant Establish and maintain best practices for AI development, deployment, and evaluation Provide architectural oversight to ensure AI systems are scalable, reliable, and maintainable Lead, mentor, and develop a team of AI engineers, ensuring consistent engineering quality Support hiring, onboarding, and performance development within the AI function AI Research & Solution Delivery: Lead the end-to-end delivery of AI solutions, from research and prototyping to production Guide model development and intelligent system design, balancing innovation with delivery timelines Oversee evaluation, testing, and continuous improvement of AI solutions Ensure solutions comply with responsible AI principles, security expectations, and governance standards Identify and mitigate technical and operational risks associated with AI systems Support internal and external reviews through clear technical documentation and justification Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with senior leadership and clients to shape AI roadmaps and priorities Translate complex technical concepts into clear insights for non-technical stakeholders Provide technical leadership during planning sessions, reviews, and decision-making forums Skills & Competencies: Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills Systems-level thinking and ability to balance research, delivery, and people management Clear and confident communication with senior stakeholders Technical Skills: Proficiency in AI-relevant programming languages Experience with modern AI/ML frameworks and tooling Familiarity with deploying AI solutions into production environments Understanding of data pipelines, model evaluation, and lifecycle management Experience in AI vision and language processing solutions is a plus Please note that this role does not offer visa sponsorship; candidates must have the legal right to work in Ireland indefinitely.
