Automation Engineer – Projects Team (Capital Projects €500k–€5m)

Overview
Join a high-performing Projects Team delivering capital projects from €500k to €5m in a highly automated, GMP-regulated biotech facility. You’ll support day-to-day operations and lead automation scope on new installs, upgrades, and optimisations across platforms including Emerson DeltaV (S88), Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Honeywell, and OSIsoft/AVEVA Historian.
Key Responsibilities
Project delivery (€500k–€5m): Own automation workstreams—scope, design, code/configure, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and handover—within multi-discipline capital projects.
Sustaining support: Provide timely floor support to production; diagnose and resolve automation issues to protect throughput and quality.
Code & change control: Implement software/hardware changes under formal GMP change management (impact assessments, test evidence, approvals, release).
Lifecycle documentation: Author and maintain URS/FS/DS, test protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ where applicable), and validation reports to keep systems in a validated state.
Continuous improvement: Drive reliability, data integrity, and performance improvements across DCS/PLC/SCADA and historian layers.
Compliance & data integrity: Ensure automation practices meet GMP and ALCOA+ principles.
Collaboration: Work closely with Process/Utilities/Quality/IT, vendors, and system integrators; support start-up/commissioning on new assets.
Other: Perform duties as assigned by the Automation Lead.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Electrical/Electronic, Chemical Engineering, or related field; substantial experience in sustaining/project environments.
5+ years as an Automation Engineer in biotech/pharma GMP, delivering Emerson DeltaV (S88) solutions and/or advanced PLC/SCADA systems with integration experience.
Proven record executing automation scope on capital projects (€500k–€5m)—from design through commissioning and validation.
Strong DeltaV coding capability (essential).
Excellent organisation, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.
Desirable: project coordination/management experience; exposure to Six Sigma/Lean.
Preferred/Advantageous
Experience with process plant commissioning and automation design & commissioning packages.
Familiarity with fully automated plants, GMP change control, and CSV/validation expectations.
Hands-on with OSIsoft/AVEVA PI (Historian) and related analytics.
