About the post
The objective of this post is to assist the Head of Department and all the teaching staff to deliver Medicine teaching in an efficient and student friendly way.
Job Responsibilities
* Organising the timetabling and scheduling of Medicine teaching in the Intermediate Cycle and Senior Cycles.
* Liaising with RCSI Medicine Academic Staff, hospital consultants and external lecturers to ensure the educationally valid and student friendly delivery of the Medicine element of the IC and SC schedule - lectures, Team Observed Structured Bedside Assessments (TOSBAs), TOSCE, Case based presentations, Essentials of Clinical Practice, Sub- Internship and bedside tutorials.
* Assisting academic staff / lecturers with the formation of teaching presentations.
* Assisting the Medicine academic staff in the preparation of lectures, Pod casts, handouts and other teaching materials as required.
* Liaising with other staff to ensure the availability of lecture theatres and tutorial rooms.
* Organising the attendance of students at TOSBAs, TOSCEs, Case presentations, ECP and other teaching & learning activities.
* Organising the notification, preparation and selection process for student research attachments and electives.
* Assisting students during their research attachments to the RCSI Medicine Department.
* Administering Moodle on behalf of Medicine - this includes the uploading of all teaching material, assisting in the administration of those modules co-ordinated by Medicine and the module exams.
* Liaising with the Student Academic & Regulatory Affairs (SARA) department in the co-ordinating of the teaching schedule, examinations and continuous assessment.
* Liaising with the School of Pharmacy (and other courses) as directed by the Head of Department or nominee in organising and implementing the Medicine element of agreed undergraduate teaching.
* Liaising with the SARA Office in the recruitment of examiners.
* Organising and attending meetings as requested by the Head of Department.
* Assisting in the preparation and timetabling of Prize exams.
* Organising payments for external lecturers.
* Arranging Departmental Teaching meetings.
* Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required from time to time.
* Representing the best interests of the Medicine Department/RCSI at all times.
* Performing such other duties as may be required.
Knowledge & Experience
* Essential: Strong organisational and administrative skills with the ability to focus on and produce results and prioritise objectives.
* Capable of archiving and maintaining teaching materials and equipment for continued use.
* Very strong IT skills especially MS Office: Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and E-Learning systems, with previous experience on Moodle an advantage.
* An effective communication style appropriate to audience and situation.
* Ability to make decisions and meet deadlines.
* The ability to work on one\'s own initiative as well as in a team environment.
* Flexibility to work irregular hours on a regular basis.
* Experience and a proven track record working in an academic administrative environment would be an advantage.
