Senior Oracle Database Administrator
Overview:
The Database Engineer plays a critical role within the Processing Service Delivery organization. This individual will lead large initiatives, gather requirements from development partners, analyze and implement database designs, provide consulting, and promote best practices, governance, and standards in Database Engineering at Mastercard.
The Processing Service Delivery team seeks a candidate who can solve problems, build and maintain databases, and lead Mastercard in database automation and best practices.

Database Engineering (DE) supports Mastercard's global Business Systems and Operations. As part of Technology Operations, DE drives best practices, governance, and standards in database engineering. As a Senior Engineer in the Processing Service Delivery team, you will deploy and manage various database technologies in test and production environments, supporting products like Developer APIs, Digital Checkout, and Card Tokenization.
Major Accountabilities:
* Managing Oracle databases with RAC, Data Guard, OEM, patching, upgrades, backups, restores, performance tuning, GoldenGate replication, and Exadata.
* Handling a variety of databases, with expertise in backup and recovery, performance tuning, and high availability. Technologies include Oracle, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL (preferred experience in multiple technologies).
* Automating infrastructure with scripting skills.
* Managing client expectations and proactive communication.
* Collaborating with other DBAs and leading initiatives.
* Providing strategic input on database domain direction.
* Guiding best practices and supporting development teams with database solutions.
* Reviewing new tools and planning data migrations.
Education (preferred):
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or equivalent experience.
Knowledge/Experience (preferred):
* Deep knowledge of database management, including installation, creation, space management, backup/recovery, replication, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
* Strong working knowledge of RDBMS and NoSQL databases with relevant certifications.
* Understanding of security standards and best practices.
* Experience with database tuning, troubleshooting, Oracle replication (GoldenGate/DataGuard), Oracle internals, middleware (OEM), and physical database tuning.
* Proficiency in SQL tuning, backup/recovery with RMAN, PL/SQL coding, partitioning, sharding, Oracle RAC, and Oracle features.
* Experience with multiple database technologies including Oracle, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL.
* Understanding CAP theorem and data modeling for structured and unstructured data.
Skills/Abilities:
* Strong communication skills for promoting DBA best practices and data governance.
* Ability to multitask, prioritize, and quickly adapt to new technologies.
* Experience working with geographically dispersed teams.
* Excellent collaboration skills and customer service orientation.
