Job Description
As a senior member of the site leadership team, you will drive engineering and asset reliability to deliver best in class performance. You will provide strategic leadership to a team of frontline maintenance managers and technical specialists, navigating complex stakeholder dynamics and a unionised labour environment. You are accountable for 100% compliance with local legal regulations, QHSE standards across all manufacturing assets and automation systems.
Key Responsibilities
People Leadership & Union Relations
Lead, coach and manage a team of direct‑report maintenance managers, driving accountability, high performance and alignment across a diverse workforce.
Navigate and maintain stable employee relations within a unionised manufacturing setting, partnering with labour representatives to implement operational changes smoothly.
Own and execute a clear people succession and resource plan for the site’s asset & technology population, identifying and implementing critical levers to attract, retain and develop business‑critical technical talent.
Site Asset Reliability & Operations
Drive a culture of high asset reliability to maximise engineering uptime and reduce manufacturing interruptions.
Lead and be accountable for the site’s comprehensive Asset Maintenance program and engineering capabilities, ensuring all maintenance repairs and operations are fully optimised.
Standardise asset‑related business continuity plans and manufacturing compliance regulations, ensuring strict implementation, regular reviews and monitoring for all employees and contractors.
Strategic & Financial Governance
Develop and execute a multi‑year engineering roadmap and annual operating plan designed to deliver a sustainable competitive advantage.
Partner with cross‑functional stakeholders and external service providers to define, track and meet rigorous Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Sustainability and Engagement (SQCDSE) goals.
Establish strong governance frameworks to review and control technical operational performance, driving a continuous improvement plan to match best‑in‑class benchmarks both internally and externally (OEE, MTBF, and vendor SLAs).
Continuous Improvement
Embed Progressive Maintenance (PM) principles across the engineering department to move from reactive to predictive maintenance.
Champion Condition‑Based Monitoring (CBM), predictive analytics and digital tools to modernise traditional maintenance practices and deliver zero breakdowns.
Qualifications & Experience
Leadership Experience
Experience managing, coaching, and developing direct‑report managers in a fast‑paced manufacturing/CPG setting.
Demonstrated success operating within unionised work environments, with strong negotiation and conflict‑resolution skills.
Demonstrated abilities in team building.
Technical & Business Acumen
Preferably a time‑served engineer by trade with relevant industry experience, optional university degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Automation or related technical field).
Deep knowledge of industrial maintenance, asset lifecycle management, PM expertise and spare parts optimisation.
Strong financial acumen with hands‑on experience managing large‑scale manufacturing budgets and engineering projects.
Proficiency with Asset Management tools (e.g., SAP PM module) and automation concepts.
Excellent communication (verbal & written).
