Role Summary
As a Senior Game Designer at VOID Interactive, you will be expected to exhibit both a deep and broad understanding of game design principles, especially within the FPS domain. The Senior Designer is expected to take the initiative in their work, while driving and owning multiple design features, all with minimal oversight from the Design leadership. As Senior Designer, you should balance creativity with rigorous technical execution, while proving a highly effective communicator. Your background in technical design and hands-on implementation will be essential to your success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, prototype, and iterate on core gameplay systems (mission design, combat, AI behaviours, player mechanics, scripting tools).
* Create robust, technically sound design specs and visualisations that facilitate cross-functional collaboration.
* Own and execute features end-to-end with minimal supervision, ensuring design vision is preserved through to final implementation.
* Collaborate closely across various departments, including engineering, QA, and art to refine and optimise gameplay mechanics for quality and performance.
* Assist the design and refinement of level layouts, player flow, and environmental storytelling by further development of systems for content teams.
* Maintain and improve design documentation with attention to quality, clarity, and usability.
* Take part in internal play-tests, critique sessions, and live issue triage, using data and feedback to guide revisions.
Candidate Profile
* 6-8 years of professional experience in game design, ideally developing titles within the FPS genre.
* Demonstrate experience in technical design, including scripting, gameplay logic, AI behaviours, or feature development.
* Experience shipping commercial FPS titles; full production cycle involvement preferred.
* Deep and demonstrated knowledge of first-person shooter mechanics, pacing, and player psychology.
* Strong practical experience with Unreal Engine (Blueprints and/or scripting systems).
* Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; developing feature documentation.
* Effective and highly collaborative when working within multi-disciplinary teams.
* Familiarity with agile workflows, JIRA, Confluence, or similar pipeline tools
Preferred (Nice-to-Have)
* Coding or scripting background (e.g., C++, Python, Lua).
* AAA production experience, though not essential.
* Experience in systems balancing, performance optimisation, or modding tools.
