Overview Of Role


UPMC Aut Even is recruiting a Basic Grade Radiographer for a fixed-term contract of 11 months. The post holder will work with the Radiology Services Manager to provide a high-quality radiology service to all patients attending UPMC Aut Even, adhering to professional best practices and hospital guidelines, policies, and procedures.



Primary Duties And Responsibilities


* Implement and adhere to radiology policies and procedures.
* Provide a high-quality clinical imaging service.
* Ensure all audit requirements are met.
* Maintain comprehensive knowledge of relevant modalities.
* Manage daily examination schedules, including scheduled out-patients and urgent in-patients/out-patients.
* Operate diagnostic imaging equipment safely, including ancillary equipment for clinical duties.
* Operate equipment related to quality control and contrast administration.
* Communicate effectively with department staff, radiologists, wards, and other hospital departments.
* Accept and justify routine diagnostic imaging referrals according to protocol.
* Discuss non-routine examination protocols with radiologists to ensure proper adherence to clinical protocols.
* Complete and maintain documentation related to ordering, administration, and scanning procedures.
* Identify patients accurately following hospital policies.
* Have knowledge of procedures and safety related to MRI, Ultrasound, Radiation, and contrast agents.
* Ensure MRI and Radiation safety procedures are followed to protect all personnel.
* Participate in quality assurance testing of imaging modalities as per policy.
* Monitor and report equipment faults.
* Perform manual handling procedures safely with patients.
* Use patient trolleys and wheelchairs safely.
* Follow emergency and cardiac arrest procedures specific to the service.
* Train and supervise healthcare assistants in the Radiology department.
* Practice infection control procedures, including handling infectious patients and cleaning protocols.
* Clean the imaging unit, including scanners, rooms, beds, and controlled areas, in accordance with infection control and MRI safety policies.
* Monitor stock levels and replenish as needed.
* Participate in on-call duties on a rotational basis.
* Coordinate with RPO and Medical Physics on safety and operational issues.
* Communicate effectively with radiography staff to achieve departmental KPIs and development goals.
* Engage in team-building activities.
* Notify the Radiography Services Manager of leave in accordance with hospital policy.
* Create a learning environment and stay updated with hospital training and developments.
* Maintain current knowledge of clinical, technical, and radiological advancements.
* Report changes in best practices following training days.
* Take responsibility for personal learning and contribute to team development.


Qualifications & Experience

* BSc in Diagnostic Radiography.
* Recognition and validation by the Irish Institute of Radiography.
* CORU registration.
* Experience in a hospital setting is essential.
* Ability to build relationships and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Empathy and respectful treatment of patients, relatives, and colleagues.
* Strong time management skills.
* Ability to act swiftly in urgent situations.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially for liaising with other disciplines.
