About the role
We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a committed and capable Assistant Chef to support the Head Chef in the delivery of high-quality meals in a caring, residential environment. This role is ideal for someone with strong culinary skills, a team-oriented approach, and a passion for preparing nutritious food for older adults.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Head Chef in the preparation and cooking of meals in line with residents’ dietary needs, preferences, and medical requirements.
Take charge of the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef, ensuring continuity of standards and meal service.
Contribute to menu planning with a focus on variety, nutrition, and presentation.
Support in stock control, ordering, and management of kitchen supplies.
Ensure all food is prepared and stored safely in accordance with HACCP and food safety guidelines.
Work collaboratively with care and nursing staff to address individual dietary needs and feedback.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and food preparation areas.
Assist in supervising kitchen assistants or junior staff where required
Requirements
Previous experience as a Assistant Chef or strong background as a Cook or Kitchen Assistant in a healthcare or residential setting.
Familiarity with HACCP and food hygiene standards essential.
Culinary qualifications or relevant training desirable.
Ability to adapt meals for specialised diets (e.g. diabetic, low-sodium, textured-modified diets).
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Reliable, organised, and flexible with a team-first attitude.
