Job Description
Carries out the System, Hospital, and Nursing Service mission, vision, values, and the overall strategic plan, including clinical management, patient care, budgeting, financial management, and quality management across all hospital areas in the absence of leadership. Assumes direct management and administrative responsibility for the overall operation of the Nursing Department and facility during their shift, including hiring, educating, evaluating, managing staff, and staff development.

1. Assumes direct management and administrative responsibility for the overall operation of the Nursing Department and facility during their shift, including hiring, educating, evaluating, managing staff, and staff development.
2. Carries out the System, Hospital, and Nursing Service mission, vision, values, and strategic plan, along with clinical management, patient care, budgeting, financial management, and quality management in all hospital areas in the absence of leadership.
3. Promotes health system service standards and fosters a patient-focused, caring environment that meets individual patient needs.
4. Fosters collaboration and respect among physician colleagues, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
5. Develops, implements, directs, and evaluates nursing care staff and programs; counsels, directs, and instructs nursing staff in clinical and management concerns.
6. Employs learning organization principles and techniques in all aspects of unit leadership.
7. Monitors personnel, supply, and equipment considerations in collaboration with staff and support department directors.
8. Monitors unit operational performance metrics, including LOS, agency and overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates.
9. Assesses unit activity, patient activity, and personnel resources to ensure equitable and appropriate staffing.
10. Participates in activities to address deficiencies in patient care services.
11. Models standards of professional practice (clinical, educational, and leadership) for colleagues and external customers.
